To round off the week, we thought we would showcase another off roader like the Rubicon from Wednesday. This time it’s the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX Warlord. You won’t see many of these around but if you ever needed a vehicle that could survive the apocalypse, this is it!
The Warlord is built on a 2021 Ram 1500 TRX. The company behind it, Apocalypse Manufacturing, has added a third axle at the rear to make this a 6x6.
The rear has been extended to handle the extra wheels and the truck bed is now larger and longer as a result. There’s a custom frame in the back with spare wheel too.
The Warlord
The Warlord takes a standard 2021 Ram 1500 TRX and leaves much of the front alone. You can see the familiar front end, big grille, lights, huge hood and trim elements from the original truck.
The body and cab are largely the same too. It’s only when you get behind the cab that things change. That extra axle is immediately obvious, with an extra set of wheels and much longer wheel arch.
All wheels use large 18 inch wheels with 37 inch off road tires to give the truck a high ride height and huge presence.
The cabin
The cabin of the Warlord is largely standard. It’s a big space with comfortable driving seat, adjustable everything, huge centre stack with touchscreen, large centre storage and lots of glass.
The finishing is excellent, as you would expect from Ram, with soft touch materials, solid switches and a reassuring feel throughout.
The inside of a TRX is a nice place to be. Visibility is superb, it’s very comfortable and you feel very safe. Riding as high as the Warlord, we imagine that is amplified to quite a degree.
Under the hood
Under the hood is the standard engine for a 2021 Ram 1500 TRX, a 6.2-litre V8 that produces 702 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque. That’s plenty enough to cope with the extra weight and size of the Warlord.
It uses an 8 speed automatic transmission with the standard running gear and suspension setup.
This truck is impressive enough in standard guise and costs $250,000 USD. If that isn’t enough, you can opt for 40 inch tires instead of 37, thermal imaging system, LED lighting and some other goodies for a little extra.
We don’t imagine we’ll see many Warlords on the road or off road for that matter but it’s a nice concept. If you run an off road safari or need a signature vehicle for rescue of off road recovery, this is definitely the one to get!
