To help push its heavy duty pickup, Nissan have released a special edition. It is designed for those intrepid people who like to go really off road. Shown at Overland Expo West, this concept vehicle garnered a lot of attention for all the right reasons.
Project Basecamp is based on a Titan XD Pro-4X and sports a Cummins diesel engine, 17 inch beadlock wheels with massive tires, a three inch lift kit, air springs, extra body panels and bash plates, hood vent and a Rhino Rack with roof-mounted tent.
The Titan XD Pro-4X was chosen for its truck-strength frame and ability to take a big engine. The 5.0-litre Cummins diesel produces 310 hp and 555 lb-ft of torque. With room for five and huge scope for upgrades, it makes the perfect platform for overlanding.
According to Nissan, there are 60 extra parts added to the Titan XD Pro-4X including those listed above.
2017 Nissan Titan XD
If you’re considering non-domestic brands for your next truck, the 2017 Nissan Titan XD could be exactly what you’re looking for. Powered by the ultra-capable Cummins diesel engine and featuring a strong chassis, large cab and decent truck bed, there is a lot to recommend the Titan.
The design is bold but rugged looking. There is a big front end with squared off grille and a pair of headlights either side. A large bash plate is visible under the front while the curved hood draws the eye up to the windshield and over the roof. A standard truck bed brings up the rear.
There is a double cab for the XD version which offers a lot of interior space. The driving position is high and commanding. Controls are all within easy reach and everything is where you expect it to be. Passenger space is generous and headroom plentiful too.
Usually, I say the Nissan engine offers the reliability you’re looking for but in this case, only one motor is from Nissan, the 5.6-litre V8 gasoline engine. It delivers 390 hp and 394 lb-ft of torque. The diesel option uses Indiana based Cummins. The same diesel V8 that is in Project Basecamp is in the ‘normal’ Titan XD and delivers the same power.
With a raft of features and even more options, there are many ways to make the 2017 Nissan Titan XD your own. So if you’re looking for a capable truck that isn’t quite as common on the road as domestic brands, this could be for you.
