Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe plug-in hybrid SUV unveiled

Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe plug-in hybrid SUV unveiled

Stellantis and Jeep unveiled the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe plug-in hybrid SUV last week and it looks good. The full size SUV continues the design philosophy and appeal as the gas powered line but with added green credentials.

Jeep had tested the waters thoroughly with the Wrangler 4xe and found an appetite for electric driving. The Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe seeks to capitalize on that.

It’s all part of Jeep’s intent to offer an electrified variant of every model by 2025.

Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe

The Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe continues where the previous generation left off. The design has been updated but still retains the signature front end and Jeep grille.

It’s still an imposing vehicle, tall, long, wide and squared off but manages to still look great for it. The front end isn’t exactly aero but it’s exactly what you expect from Jeep.

Build quality is high as you would expect. Everything has been well put together, with tidy shut lines, no rattles or creaks. It’s definitely a premium vehicle and feels it wherever you look.

Inside, the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe should continue that feeling. We have only seen renderings so far, but it looks good.

Flowing dashboard and trim lines, a fully equipped centre stack, optional front passenger screen, adjustable seats and lots and lots of storage.

You know from current Grand Cherokee that Jeep throws everything at it and a lot of it sticks. It looks exactly the same here.

You get a 10.1” touchscreen with Uconnect 5, an optional front passenger screen measuring 10.25” and rear 10.1” screens. The passenger screens will apparently support Amazing Fire TV streaming.

Under the hood

We don’t know exactly what will be powering the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe but we do know it will provide up to 25 miles of all-electric driving, the equivalent of 57 mpge and the equivalent of 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque.

We don’t know the exact type of motor(s) yet but the Wrangler 4xe has performed well, so we have high hopes for this version.

Standard safety features will apparently include adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality, collision warnings, blind-spot monitoring, a reversing camera and parking sensors.

Other safety kit will likely be optional but we don’t know the specifics yet.

The same reveal that showed us the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe plug-in hybrid SUV also hinted at a new Chrysler, the Airflow. It’s just a concept right now still but is thought to use the Pacifica platform, so could become a thing.

We expect to learn much more about the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe plug-in hybrid SUV over the coming months as it is expected to release sometime in 2022.
