Jay Leno drives original and new Ford Mustang Bullitt

600 × 397
A new release from the very popular Jay Leno’s Garage TV show features a head-to-head with the new 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt and the original from 1968. Jay takes the wheel of both cars and talks us through both fast Ford cars in his on inimitable style.

The eagle-eyed among you will see that this is a re-release of a show from a couple of months ago but in that original, the audio didn’t work so well. This version has been tidied up and is well worth a watch.
Here it is:

The original Bullitt from 1968 had famously disappeared for almost fifty years. The current owner found it in Road and Track in 1974 and bought it for $6,000. It remained a family secret until recently. The conversation with the current owner about the history of the car is worth a watch on its own, especially when they talk about Steve McQueen wanting to buy it from the guy who found it.

It is currently unrestored and while ratty, still looks and sounds amazing. Although, next to the shiny new version, does look its age.

The newer 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt is a special version of Ford’s amazing reimagining of the pony car that has hit the right spot in all camps. Newcomers love it, even those not normally into cars. The heritage crew like it, or at least tolerate it and many Mustang fans new and old either own one or are saving to own one. It is that good!

2018 Ford Mustang
The 2018 Ford Mustang is a triumph. Available as a coupe or convertible, four cylinders or eight and in a great looking package, the Mustang is a sports car for the modern age. It’s intelligent, safe and best of all, fun.

The look is all Mustang, yet with a modern touch. The pony is still front and centre but is now part of an aerodynamic and attractive package. New lighting, superb alloy wheel designs, considered interior design and lots of features typify even the basic trim.

Under that lovely hood is either a 2.4-litre turbocharged four cylinder that produces 310 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque or a 5.0-litre V8 that delivers 460 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque. Both use wither a six speed manual or 10 speed automatic transmission to send power to the rear wheels.

With excellent road manners, a raft of features and options and even some safety tech, this car has it all. While you do have to buy a premium trim to access all the safety features, the car does have a five star safety rating.

The 2018 Ford Mustang delivers everything you could possibly want from a car. Fun, practicality and safety. All wrapped up in a beautiful package. Visit Northway Ford Lincoln, 388 King George Road Brantford ON N3S 3N2 to see it up close.
