Get ready for winter: 2018 Kia Sorento

640 × 480
In AWD guise, the 2018 Kia Sorento is ideal for Canadian winters. It’s steady on its feet, sure footed and capable of handling most conditions we would come across in the city or suburban streets. The Kia crossover also a fully featured car that offers way more than the modest price tag would suggest.

The 2018 Kia Sorento is a solid vehicle at any time of year but will really come into its own when the conditions get bad.

All trims but the base L have the option for all wheel drive. Along with some good engines and nice interiors, the Sorento offers practicality aplenty.

The design has been uplifted since the previous version. It is slightly larger and has a high ground clearance. It rides well on a competent chassis and well-tuned suspension. It’s a neat package that does all the right things at all the right times.

The design is minimal but full of personality. The tiger nose grille and angled lights give it presence while the angled hood and sloped windshield offer aero looks. A curved roofline and rising waist draw the eye down its profile and an unfussy rear with tailgate finish things off nicely. The design is simple and yet is far from boring. It’s a good balance that has been struck that probably took much longer than you might think to finalize.

Inside, there is a classy feel to the cabin. With upscale materials and good quality finishing, there is a lot to like about the 2018 Kia Sorento. The driving position is upright and commanding and affords decent view all round. Passenger space is plentiful and there is decent cargo space in back.

Under the hood is either a 2.4-litre four cylinder that produces 185 hp and 178 lb-ft of torque or a more capable V6 that produces 290 hp and 252 lb-ft of torque. Both use an automatic transmission to send power to all wheels.

That high ground clearance makes the 2018 Kia Sorento ideal for winter. Along with the capable V6 and AWD, it’s full of potential for going places where other vehicles cannot. It isn’t an off roader and is not going to be beating a Wrangler in a rock crawl but it has the capability to deliver you where you need to go whatever the conditions.

With five stars from the NHTSA and Top Safety Pick+ award from the IIHS, US testers rate this car’s safety. With stability control, rearview camera, blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alerts, forward-collision warnings with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control and active lane control all as standard or optional, you’re well covered in terms of vehicle safety.

If you’re heading out this winter, you could do much worse than driving a 2018 Kia Sorento. Check it out at Grimsby Kia, 435 South Service Road Grimsby, ON L3M 4E8.
