Dodge Viper factory closing next month

Dodge Viper factory closing next month

640 × 480
The end of the Dodge Viper has been a known quantity for months. With the order books for the big Dodge closed in February, the plant is coming to the end of the orders and will be closing on August 31.

Rumours began back in 2015 that the Dodge Viper would not be continued and that came to pass last year when the end was officially announced. Since February, only 83 workers have been at the Conner Assembly Plan finishing off those final orders. The plant is to close completely at the end of August. All 83 workers are believed to be being offered jobs elsewhere within FCA.

As brash and as loud as the Dodge Viper is, there was something about it that draws the eye and the ear. The iconic roar of that V10 engine sounds like nothing else on the road!

2017 Dodge Viper
All versions of the Viper will be sadly missed but the 2017 Dodge Viper is one of the best. With a series of limited editions, upgraded engines and a slightly lighter weight, there is a lot to recommend this car. It is a car designed and built by car guys for other car guys.

The monstrous naturally aspirated 8.4-litre V10 engine delivers 645 hp and 600 lb-ft of torque. It sends all that power to the rear wheels through a Tremec TR6060 six-speed manual transmission.

The stiffened and lightened chassis help shed weight while keeping the car straight. Inspiration from track cars was brought onto the road with new chassis materials and a new cross brace up front. The result is a stiffer and more responsive ride. Improvements to the suspension and rear arrangements meant road holding has improved too.

Huge four pot Brembo brakes with aluminium callipers and 355mm discs and Pirelli P Zero tires help keep it on the road.

While there is no quarter given over to luxury in the 2017 Dodge Viper, that isn’t to say it is uncomfortable, because it really isn’t. It is more a cockpit than cabin and trim is kept to a minimum but the seats are superb and the quality of the materials is excellent.

It could be argued that the era of the monster motor is over but the 2017 Dodge Viper and its V10 will always have a place in our hearts. As we gradually switch to silent electric motoring, some of us know we will continue to yearn for the roar of combustion.

While the order books are closed on new Dodge Vipers, Car Nation Canada has a huge reach. If you are looking to source one, we can certainly help. Visit your local dealership and let us work our magic!
