The New York International Auto Show has brought us a raft of cool vehicles to whet our appetite for the new season. Two of the many vehicles that caught my eye was from Kia. One was the new K900 luxury sedan and the other was the 2019 Sedona. I’ll cover the K900 today and the Sedona on Friday.
The new 2019 Kia K900 is an all-new car that shares a lot of DNA with the Genesis G90. New chassis, new body, new interior, new updated engine and new technology are what you can expect with this new model. According to Kia, only the name remains from the old vehicle. That sets the scene nicely for a new look at a new car.

The 2019 Kia K900 is at the top of the tree as far as Kia is concerned. Designed to take on the German luxury marques at a much lower price, the K900 sets its sights high. While the name isn’t exactly inspiring, once you sit in the driver’s seat of the car, that all changes.
The car deviates somewhat from the usual Kia design. While there is a grille at the front, it isn’t the typical tiger nose. It is more round and more subtle, while a small Kia badge sits above it. The lower sill is also more subtle and the headlights are compact with LED running rights. Overall, the front end is both simple yet very effective.
The rest of the design is equally simple. A slightly bulging hood is the only real panel detailing across the entire car. A long wheelbase, refined lines and a nice set of alloy wheels in each corner completes the look.
The cabin continues the simplicity. Materials are top quality, the seats are comfortable and everything has a real quality look and feel about it. Yet for a luxury car, the interior is very understated. I like it for that. The 2019 Kia K900 is simple yet very effective and provides a simple, uncluttered driving position with everything controlled from the large touchscreen.
That touchscreen features UVO Luxe with Find my Car, smartphone integration and lots of other neat tricks. It also controls the 18-speaker Harmon Kardon audio system, navigation and lots of other features.
There is a single engine for the 2019 Kia K900 too as far as we know. Again from the G90, the motor is a 3.3-litre twin turbo V6 that produces 265 hp and 376 lb-ft of torque. It uses an eight speed automatic transmission with Dynamic Torque Vectoring Control to power all four wheels. The system is the same one as in the Stinger and seems to work very well indeed.
The chassis and suspension are configured for comfort. The drive is smooth, refined and unflustered even in city traffic. There is a lot of sound insulation in the cabin but not so much that you are completely removed from the road. Just enough to keep things comfortable while providing adequate feedback from the tarmac.
The K900 will also feature Surround View Monitor, Lane Keep Assist, Blind Spot Monitoring, Cross Traffic Avoidance Alert, Lane Follow Assist and Advanced Smart Cruise Control.
Kia have yet to announce a release date and pricing. Register your interest at Georgetown Kia, 199 and 314 Guelph Street, Georgetown, Ontario if you would like to be kept up to date!
