2019 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat going retro

2019 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat going retro

600 × 301
I have always loved the new Dodge Chargers for going modern yet maintaining that legacy look. It seems I’m not the only one who loves them judging by how many we sell. It seems Dodge are not content to leave things be though as they are already releasing teasers for the 2019 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat.

A couple of teaser images released last week show a neat retro hood scoop will feature in the Hellcat version at least. The design is straight out of the seventies and yet looks right in this time too. Watch any version of Smokey and the Bandit and you will see cars with these hood scoops all over the road.

The current Hellcat uses a cool-looking single scoop to gulp more air but the 2019 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat will go for the double. These two scoops will not necessary take in more air but they will look good. Dodge says they are fully functional and will feed the engine so are not just there for aesthetics.

Dodge have promised us more information on the 2019 Dodge Challenger during the summer.

2018 Dodge Challenger
The 2018 Dodge Challenger is all things to all people. A heritage car that brings back memories of a bygone era, a new iteration of a muscle car for the next generation, or a cool-sounding car to drive to work in each day. Very few cars can pull off that kind of trick but the big Dodge can.

The design is firmly in the retro camp but in a good way. It’s big, imposing and has a real presence. Yet it isn’t scary or too masculine. The exterior has remained true to the original redesign with only slight design upgrades since release. The inside is the same and goes back to the values of the original. Simple unfussy design done well with solid, reliable build quality and some modern touches.

Under that huge hood is either a 3.6-litre V6 that produces 305 hp, a 5.7-litre V8 that produces 375 hp a 6.4-litre V8 that delivers 485 hp. Or you could go for the supercharged 6.2-litre Hellcat engine that delivers a stonking 707 hp. All use a manual or automatic transmission depending on what engine you choose.

Despite being a muscle car, the 2018 Dodge Challenger has good road manners. The suspension is tuned well and drives in a very planted yet comfortable way. The car even corners well, certainly much better than the original. With decent equipment levels, a huge features list and the option for AWD, it is definitely a car worth checking out if you want to stay away from the norm.
