2018 Kia Soul: A Quick Overview

The 2018 Kia Soul is a very cool little car. I had a good look round and a test drive of one yesterday and I must say I am impressed. I had seen the little Kia on the forecourt and around Ontario and always thought they looked quite cool. It was only when I got up close and personal that I realized just how good they look.
The Soul is a great little car that proves beyond reasonable doubt that vehicles can have personality. The looks, the peppy engine, agile handling and willingness to do more is part Labrador and part wilful teenager. I like it a lot.
2018 Kia Soul design
The 2018 Kia Soul is very much of its time. A boxy shape done well with aero pretensions at the front to help gas mileage and a squared-off rear to aid practicality. The front end has a modest tiger nose grille and a big lower grille. Softened angled headlights give it a friendly look. The small angled hood and rounded fenders aren’t bad either.
The roof angles down slightly from the front windshield into a rectangular rear. With four doors and wheels at each corner, you know this car is going to be practical and fun.
On the inside, the position is unique. The dashboard is set quite low but the seats high. This afford you excellent visibility all round and it is a wonder more automakers don’t use this design. The cabin quality is very good with lots of soft materials and high standards of finishing. Space is not an issue either in front or in back.
2018 Kia Soul mechanicals
There are three engine options for the Soul, a 1.6-litre four cylinder that produces 130 hp and 118 lb-ft of torque and a 2.0-litre that gives 161hp and 150 lb-ft of torque. The third option is a turbo version of the 1.6-litre that delivers 201 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque.
The two NA engines use a six speed transmission to power the front wheels. The 1.6 has the option of manual or automatic while the 2-litre has automatic. The turbo engine uses a 7 speed dual clutch automatic transmission.
2018 Kia Soul features
The Soul may be small but it is packed to the gills with technology. Features can include cruise control, Bluetooth, reversing camera, Uvo infotainment, alloy wheels, heated seats, sunroof, forward-collision warnings with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, leather upholstery and keyless ignition. These features will be standard or optional depending on which trim you go for.
Overall, the 2018 Kia Soul is a great little car that is ideal for city living or a family. It has good engines, lots of practicality and looks the part. As it’s a Kia, it is very competitively priced too!
