The 2016 Lincoln MKX Safety Rating

The 2016 Lincoln MKX Safety Rating

640 × 480
The 2016 Lincoln MKX is a top quality luxury crossover SUV. It’s also regarded as pretty safe by the U.S. IIHS. They have just awarded the redesigned Lincoln the prestigious Top Safety Pick+ rating.

The Top Safety Pick+ complements the five-star overall safety rating from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Part of the reason for the rating is the new front-crash prevention system which is optional on the MKX. Vehicles with it fitted are regarded as Top Safety Pick+ while others are a little short of that.

Other safety tech standard on the 2016 Lincoln MKX include antilock brakes, stability control, traction control, front side airbags, side curtain airbags, integrated blind spot mirrors, rearview camera and rear parking sensors.

Optional extras include blind-spot monitoring, rear parking sensors, lane-departure warning, lane-departure intervention, forward collision warning, forward collision mitigation with automatic braking, pedestrian detection and a neat driver drowsiness monitor.

No wonder it scores so highly!

2016 Lincoln MKX

The 2016 Lincoln MKX is fully redesigned for this year. It has a new design, new materials, new safety tech, new engines and new suspension. All wrapped up in a great looking premium package.

The design is still definitely Lincoln with the split grille and shaped headlights as standard. It’s a more subtle design that doesn’t shout ‘money’ from the rooftops like some luxury SUVs. Instead, it leaves the vehicle itself to speak to the driver and passengers.

Inside, the new cabin has better finishing, better materials and a better layout. There are lots of soft touch materials, thick insulation, quality metals and plastics and an overall feeling of prestige. It’s roomy too, with plenty of room for five and cargo in the back.

Driving the 2016 Lincoln MKX is either a 3.7-litre V6 that delivers 303 hp and 278 lb-ft of torque or a 2.7-litre turbocharged V6 that’s good for 335 hp and 380 lb-ft of torque. Both use a six speed automatic transmission to send power to the front or all wheels.

The same four trim groups are available, Premiere, Select, Reserve and Black Label. All are very well appointed as you would expect and include everything from LED lighting, keyless ignition and entry, heated seats and a whole lot more. The Black Label allows access to the very select Black Reserve Program too.
