The 2016 Ford Fusion is the continuation of a solid midsize
sedan that leads the pack in terms of design, technology and value. There are
few competitors that even come close to any of those three elements, which is
why the Fusion sells so well.
Ford have come a long way these past few years. The global
platform, handsome designs, elevations in materials and build quality and some
superior engines cement the blue oval as a firm favourite across Canada and the
rest of the world. The 2016 Ford Fusion epitomizes all those things.
2016 Ford Fusion design
The shark-like front end really works for us. Those narrow
angled headlights, big grille, curved hood and nice lower vents all make for a
great looking car. Every panel has some kind of detailing on it and the overall
shape has been designed to draw the eye down the entire length of the car.
On the inside, quality is everywhere. Nice materials, great
space, nice driving position, tidy centre stack and plenty of storage all make
this car very easy to live with. The driving position of the 2016 Ford Fusion
is particularly good. The dashboard is bright and clear, visibility is great
all round and the seats are very comfortable indeed.
Engine and transmission
There are three engine options for the 2016 Ford Fusion.
Standard is a 2.5-litre four cylinder that produces 175 hp and 175 lb-ft of
torque. There is also a turbocharged 1.5-litre four that delivers 181 hp and
185 lb-ft of torque and a turbocharged 2.0-litre four that generates 240 hp and
270 lb-ft of torque.
All send power to the front wheels via a six speed automatic
transmission. All wheel drive is an option. Each engine is quiet and refined
and has enough power to make driving effortless while returning enough gas
mileage to make the Fusion a very economical car to own.
2016 Ford Fusion trims
The 2016 Ford Fusion has three trim levels, S, SE and
Titanium. The Fusion S offers 16 inch wheels, auto lighting, power everything,
cruise control, air conditioning, rearview camera, Bluetooth, voice activated
audio and CD audio.
The Fusion SE adds 17 inch alloy wheels, keypad entry,
heated mirrors, power front seats and six speaker CD audio with satellite
radio. The Titanium further adds 18 inch alloys, tuned suspension, keyless
entry and ignition, remote engine start, sports seats, 8 inch touchscreen,
MyFord Touch, automatic climate control and premium Sony audio.
