Ford and Jeep among the brands that depreciate the least

Ford and Jeep among the brands that depreciate the least

While nobody buys a new car or truck purely on the potential resale value, it does have a bearing on our decision making. It’s always good to know that any significant investment we are about to make can provide even a modest return once we need to upgrade.

If you buy a Ford or Jeep, you stand a higher chance than usual of getting a decent resale value. That’s according to Kelley Blue Book anyway.

Their Kelley Blue Book’s 20th Annual Best Resale Value Awards has a list of all the makes and models with the best resale values and Car Nation Canada brands are among them.

Resale values

The top ten vehicles with the best resale values are:

  1. Toyota Tundra — 70.2% ($38,950-$74,320)
  2. GMC Sierra — 60.8% ($36,295-$80,395)
  3. Toyota Tacoma — 60.6% ($27,150-$46,585)
  4. Ford Maverick (tied with #5) — 59.5% ($19,995-$25,860)
  5. Chevrolet Corvette (tied with #4) — 59.5% ($60,900-$72,850)
  6. Toyota 4Runner — 58.6% ($38,105-$52,920)
  7. Tesla Model X — 57.6% ($104-900-$126,490)
  8. Ford F-Series — 57.3% ($38,545-$80,050)
  9. Ford Ranger — 56.7% ($27,900-$39,465)
  10. Jeep Gladiator — 56.1% ($36,085-$53,170)

Other winners include the Kia Telluride as the Midsize SUV with one of the best resale values, the Lincoln Aviator as one of the best luxury SUVs, Ford Maverick for compact pickup and the Ford Mustang Mach-E for electric vehicle resale value.

Resale values and car purchases

A combination of factors has turned the car market upside down of late. A combination of parts shortages for new cares, increased demand for quality used cars and higher car use across the board has put pressure on vehicle stocks.

Add inflationary pressures and the changes in how we now work and you have a very confused picture as far as new cars are concerned.

So, it’s great that you may be able to get a little more out of your current car when you trade it in or sell it.

Not only is demand for quality used cars higher than ever, the prices being offers are pretty good too.

Buy a Ford, Jeep or Kia and you get a high quality vehicle that will offer many years of faithful service. Then, if you sell it while prices are like they are, you’ll have the added bonus of getting a little more for it when you sell it or trade it in.

Of course, inflationary pressure is pushing up new car prices too, so it will be a delicate balance to find the sweet spot in terms of maximum profit and usability!
