FCA investing up to $1.5 billion in Windsor Ontario

Any positive jobs news is good news, so it is with great pleasure that we can say car manufacture in Windsor, Ontario is safe for now. A deal between FCA and the unions has paved the way for a significant investment in its Windsor plant to build EVs.

That investment will apparently be between $1.35 and $1.5 billion over the coming years to help adapt the plant for advanced platforms suitable for electric vehicles.

This news is on top of Ford’s announcement that it was also investing in Canada. It said it was also investing up to $1.5 billion in its two plants in Windsor and Oakville.

According to initial reports, the investment will include adding a further 2,000 jobs to the existing roster. Some of these will work on the life-extended Chrysler 300 and new Dodge Charger and Challenger models.

2020 Chrysler 300

The 2020 Chrysler 300 has been around forever but doesn’t court the headlines like some cars. It’s a steady performer that is always on time, always willing to work and always delivers first class service. All without expecting anything in return.

It’s an American-style sedan. Big, bulky and not afraid to get its own way. It’s far less brash than before though, which is good for Canadian buyers.

Sizeable sedan

The 2020 Chrysler 300 is one of the few remaining sedans. It’s a solid design that goes back years but has been steadily refined and improved over that time.

The design is still bulky but has been rounded off and had the more garish elements removed. It’s now a unfussy design with few panel details and those that remain are superb, like those lower sills.

Inside, the size works in your favour as there is plenty of room for people and their cargo. Front seats are particularly supportive, interior space is excellent and the trunk is huge.

Materials quality is top class and the leather or upholstered seats are particularly worth of note. The cabin is well put-together with a touchscreen, USB charging, quality audio system upgradeable to Beats Audio or Harmon Kardon and a whole lot more.

Under the hood

There are two engine options for the 2020 Chrysler 300. One is a 3.6-litre V6 that delivers 292 hp and the other is a 5.7-litre V8 that delivers 363 hp. Both use an eight speed automatic transmission.

Both engines are up to the task but the V8 is where it’s at. It’s throaty, smooth and with enough power to take you anywhere you want to go.

The 2020 Chrysler 300 may be one of the few sedans left on the road but it is still holding its own. We think it’s a compelling package that holds its age with grace and can still deliver the goods when asked.
