Will the 2021 Chrysler Pacifica offer AWD?

Those of us who follow auto news online have heard quite a few rumblings around the 2021 Chrysler Pacifica. Of particular interest to us in Canada is the rumour that the upcoming Chrysler may offer all-wheel drive as an option. Along with some other improvements, it could be the one thing that ensures the Pacifica is a car for everyone.

With the 2020 model having improved the minivan in many ways, some owners were still left wanting with the lack of AWD. The next model, the 2021 Chrysler Pacifica, may just address that. Mopar Insiders think it’s coming and other rumours online, while not so emphatic, definitely hint that it might be on the cards.

Those rumours speculate that the Pacifica will take the four-wheel drive system from the Jeep Renegade. Some rumours say it will just deliver AWD while others think that it may include the hybrid setup we saw earlier this year. This is all pure speculation right now but considering we are in the depths of winter here in Canada, it’s nice to think that Car Nation Canada’s favourite minivan may get all-wheel drive.

Let’s hope those rumours prove true!

2020 Chrysler Pacifica

I think it is no exaggeration to say that the Chrysler Pacifica has changed the way we think of minivans. Sure they can be viewed purely as people movers but the van is equally at home hauling cargo, mountain bikes, bulky items and anything else that will fit into the cavernous interior. If it can do all that while looking this good, why wouldn’t you buy one?

The 2020 Chrysler Pacifica uses a 3.6-litre V6 engine that produces 287 hp. It uses a slick 9 speed automatic transmission to send power to the front wheels. It’s an excellent engine that has proven itself reliable and dependable so far and has enough power for any kind of driving.

Interior space is plentiful with lots of glass to add light, lots of storage options and practicality. With the ability to carry up to eight in comfort, the Pacifica is a very capable minivan. Even when full, there is still 32.2 cu.ft of cargo space in back for your luggage or groceries.

The US NHTSA awarded the Pacifica a 5 star overall rating for safety and it has been a Top Safety Pick for three years in a row. Some of that is thanks to blind-spot monitors, rear parking sensors, automatic emergency braking, active lane control, active parking assist, a surround-view camera system and adaptive cruise control available as standard or as options depending on the trim you choose.

With power-sliding rear doors, remote start, power driver’s seat, nice upholstery, Stow ‘N Go seating, 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and even an integrated vacuum cleaner, the opportunities are endless!
