What is FCA planning for 2018?
Posted on August 1, 2017
Not that long ago, Ford, GM and Chrysler used to hold events called Long Lead. These were an advanced look at what they had planned for the coming year. It allowed the industry and interested parties to see what models were coming and when. Now, only Chrysler in FCA still hold Long Lead while Ford and GM have dropped it.
So what is in store from FCA for next year?
Unfortunately, details of upcoming Chrysler models are not available just yet as they are embargoed until 1 September. Jeep, Dodge and Ram on the other hand aren’t quite so shy. A lot is still being kept under wraps though.
The big news is the arrival of the 2018 Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. The Hemi-engined beast will have over 707hp and lots of upgrades over the normal model to offer performance on any terrain. It is definitely an SUV I will look forward to trying out.
Jeep Wrangler and Grand Cherokee are undergoing some changes too but they form part of the press embargo. Sorry about that.
The 2018 Challenger SRT Demon is obviously the headliner here. With 840 hp and 770 lb-ft of torque on tap it will make a splash and a roar when it lands. The 2018 Durango SRT will also be making an appearance with another Hemi engine, this time with 475 hp available. The Durango R/T will also be tweaked both mechanically and visually.
There are more changes to Dodge vehicles, but again that embargo.
The 2018 Ram 1500 is apparently getting some love but exact details of which we do not know. The same for the various trim levels. We know of the 2018 Ram 1500 Limited Tungsten Edition but we don’t know much else. The Ram 1500 is expected to be either all new or redesigned. We also expect the Ram HD diesel to feel the force too.
The 2500 Power Wagon is also supposed to bring in the changes and there are rumours of an all-new truck.
We have at least a little news to keep us interested until September 1 when that embargo is lifted. I don’t know fully what has been kept out of the press and what hasn’t but when we get the briefing pack closer to the time, I will share whatever I can.
