Two new engine options rumoured for 2021 Ford F-150 Raptor

Two new engine options rumoured for 2021 Ford F-150 Raptor

The performance truck market is hotting up thanks to the Ram TRX. The formerly undisputed king, the F-150 Raptor now has a challenger and the competition is fierce. Ford isn’t letting Ram take charge though. Instead, it will be offering two new engines for the 2021 Ford F-150 Raptor.

We have been here before. When the earlier Raptor was released, we began with that 5.4-litre V8 only to have the 6.2-litre added later. Ford then promptly dropped the 5.4. The next generation Raptor arrived with the 3.5-litre twin turbo engine with its 450 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque.

And here we are. The Ram TRX has the supercharged 6.2-litre engine from the Hellcat which leaves the Raptor in the dust.

New engines for the Raptor

Ford was not going to leave it there. While this is rumour right now, there is a strong indication that Ford is planning a pair of engines for next year’s Raptor.

The first is thought to be the 5.2-litre V8 engine out of the Mustang GT500. That’s a big unit that delivers 760 hp and 625 lb-ft of torque in the Shelby. It could deliver very similar numbers in the Raptor if done right.

The second engine options is the 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6 with electric motors to deliver in excess of 500 hp. This is the current engine and is believed to be already being converted into the PowerBoost hybrid in the future F-150 hybrid model.

These are just rumours right now though.

2020 Ford F-150 Raptor

The 2020 Ford F-150 Raptor is a superb performance truck that was the undisputed king of the road and off road. The arrival of the ram TRX may have shaken things up a bit but that doesn’t take anything away from the Raptor.

The 2020 Ford F-150 Raptor is a great looking truck with great looks, some strong colours, a great interior with Ford Sync 3, forward-collision warning and automated emergency braking, lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitor and rear cross-traffic alert.

Under that hood is the twin turbocharged V6 engine we mentioned earlier. It delivers 450 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque to the 10 speed automatic transmission.

Uprated suspension makes easy work of driving whether you’re on the road or off it. The balance is superb and whatever Ford has done underneath delivers a smooth ride until you hit the really rough stuff. Even then it is still sure footed and confident.

The 2020 Ford F-150 Raptor is a superb truck that is as capable as it is fun to drive. Visit Northway Ford Lincoln, 388 King George Road Brantford ON N3S 3N2 to learn more.
