Two door Gladiator concept going to Moab

Two door Gladiator concept going to Moab

640 × 444
I mentioned last week that Jeep were taking some concepts to Moab but didn’t have much detail on them. One thing I do have is the news that a two door Jeep Gladiator was one of those concepts.

Dressed in a nice blue colour, the concept looked the best version of a Gladiator I have seen so far. It looks amazing. It was one of six vehicles to have attended the event but was by far the best as far as I’m concerned.

The guys at Jeep have said this isn’t a production model as yet but they would like it to be. In an interview, Jeep division boss Tim Kuniskis said that selling FCA on the idea of a two-door Gladiator wouldn’t be easy but the healthy sales figures of the two door Wrangler would be a prime part of that. Given how well the Wrangler sells, I wouldn’t be surprised if we did get to see this model on our roads within the next year or two.

Not so good news was the confirmation that we wouldn’t be seeing a Hellcat-powered Gladiator. That concept also graced Moab but the company said they have no plans to produce it. They said the engine fit perfectly into the bay and worked like a charm but there wasn’t quite enough space to fit the engine and meet crash safety standards.

That’s a real shame but not a showstopper. There is no way that a Gladiator needs such power for the kind of duties asked of it.

2020 Jeep Gladiator
The 2020 Jeep Gladiator has been a long time coming. Thirty years since the last one and with a public with an appetite for trucks and Jeeps in general, it’s surprising it took this long. The wait is over though and the 2020 Jeep Gladiator is here to stay.

To say the Gladiator is a Wrangler with a pickup on the back may be accurate but understates what this vehicle is. It has been redesigned from the ground up to deliver the go-anywhere quality of the Wrangler with the cargo hauling ability of a truck. The result is a vehicle that does both without compromising one or the other.

The design is all Wrangler up front with the grille, lights and fenders coming straight off it. The windshield is a slightly different angle and the hood is new but the signature look is still there.

With the ever-reliable Pentastar V6 engine under the hood generating 298 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque with AWD and a manual or automatic transmission, there aren’t many places this truck cannot go. Add optional extras like lift kits, bash plates, off road tires and all the usual Jeep goodies and you could take your cargo anywhere a Wrangler can.

I think the 2020 Jeep Gladiator is going to be an amazing success. If like the look of what you see, visit Unique Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, 915 Walkers Line, Burlington, ON  L7N 3V8 to learn all about it.
