The new Ram Power Wagon
We love the new Ram Power Wagon. It’s about as loud and as brash as a truck can be. When a truck makes promises as big as the Power Wagon does, it’s always nice when it delivers. That’s exactly what we have here.

Ram showed the Power Wagon last week at the Chicago Auto Show in advance of its press conference. The new truck still uses the Ram 2500 Heavy Duty 4x4 Crew Cab as its base and builds on it handsomely. The new front grille is the first thing you notice with new headlights and LED running lights following close behind. The rest of the truck looks similar to the current Power Wagon, except the graphic band just behind the cab. We think it’s a nod to vintage Ram trucks and looks the part.
At the back, a huge graphic tells you it’s a Power Wagon, as if you didn’t already recognise it when it roared past you on the road. The wheels are new too. 17 inch alloy with 33 inch Goodyear Wrangler DuraTracs off-road tyres.
Inside, the Ram Power Wagon looks the same but feels much better. Improvements in materials and finishing are the main differences here and both are very welcome. We particularly like the tyre pattern in the seats, nice touch. It makes it almost a shame to order a leather upgrade.
Under the hood of the Ram Power Wagon is a 6.4-litre Hemi V8. It delivers 410 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque through a six speed automatic transmission. To help keep it on the road is some pretty serious suspension. It uses Articulink suspension up front with electronically disconnecting sway bars and rear five-link suspension at the rear. Front and rear locking differentials are also present.
Here it is in all its glory.
Ram are understandably proud of their creation.
"The Ram Power Wagon is an off-road, all-access pass, removing the limitations, instilling confidence and allowing owners to reach areas of recreation and lifestyle not attainable with any other pickup," said Mike Manley, Head of Jeep Brand and Ram Brand, FCA - Global. "The 2017 Ram Power Wagon delivers to those who travel into extreme terrain, while providing the towing and payload capability required in a heavy-duty truck."
We like it too. It makes the performance truck choice much harder but in a good way. Do you go for an F-150 Raptor, Roush F-150 or a Power Wagon? Decisions, decisions. Although, until Ram release the full specs and price for the 2017 Ram Power Wagon, we won’t be making any firm decisions.
Production is slated for Q4 2016 with prices and specifications due before then. In the meantime, visit Unique Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, 915 Walkers Line, Burlington, ON L7N 3V8 to see the current range of Ram trucks.
