The new Kia Sedona at the New York Auto Show

The new Kia Sedona at the New York Auto Show

The Kia Sedona is one of those models that doesn’t court the headlines, doesn’t post selfies on Insta or do anything to promote itself. The Kia minivan has been quietly going about its day transporting families and reminding people the Chrysler Pacifica isn’t the only minivan on the market. A new version of this ever-dependable vehicle is coming soon.

A new Kia Sedona is at the New York Auto Show. Just a few days after seeing spy shots of a camouflaged Sedona being tested in the snow, we find out it is appearing in New York this year. It is also the same show the previous model made its debut. Kia must think it’s an ideal show for family buyers.

Kia has already shown the vehicle in full and we have those spy shots so there is very little we don’t know about this upcoming release.

Kia Sedona

The Kia Sedona was refreshed for the 2019 model year and has received more attention for the 2020 model year. As you can see from the image, the front end has been updated with a new tiger nose grille, new headlight arrangement and new lower sill.

The rear has also been given the treatment with a new look, new horizontal taillights and new lower sill and bumper guard. Overall, the Sedona looks less rounded and more angular and increasingly modern as a result. It’s a positive step forward that should do well in sales.

Inside the minivan

Inside, the Kia Sedona can seat six or eight depending on how you configure it. There is a new look in here too with new trim, new dashboard layout and what looks to be new materials. The ‘First Class’ lounge seating in the second row is still there, which is a great selling point.

Up front, the instrument setup looks very similar to the current model and the touchscreen in the centre stack has been updated to the latest UVO. This infotainment system has to be one of the most user-friendly out there and is a joy to use. This new version apparently includes Geo-fencing, Speed Alert, Curfew Alert and Driving Score for younger drivers as well as the usual navigation and apps.

As this is a Kia, safety tech is well catered for. Most Sedona will include traction control, ABS, hill-start assist, cornering brake control, rollover mitigation, forward collision warning system, blind spot detection and rear cross traffic alert.

Under the hood is a 3.3-litre GDI V6 that generates 272 hp. It’s a new engine that replaces the previous 3.5 while offering more power. It will use a six speed automatic transmission to send power to the front wheels.

The 2020 Kia Sedona is due to hit dealerships later this year with exact pricing and dates to be announced. Visit Grimsby Kia, 435 South Service Road Grimsby, ON L3M 4E8 to register your interest.
