The 2021 Chrysler Pacifica will offer AWD

The Chrysler Pacifica is already the best minivan on the market but news from the Chicago Auto Show just made it go up even further in my estimations. The 2021 Chrysler Pacifica will include an all-wheel drive option. That will make the Chrysler minivan even more popular with Canadian buyers.

That’s especially true as Chrysler said there is no downside to having AWD. The van will still drive as well as it does, you still get the same balanced chassis and responsive handling and there will be no compromise in interior space or gas capacity either. It’s a genuine win win.

The 2021 Chrysler Pacifica also brings some minor appearance updates with it too. It gets a new front end with new lights and new rear end with full width LED taillights. Inside, there is a new 10.1” touchscreen option with Uconnect 5, a new centre stack with more storage and a new Pinnacle trim with Nappa leather and throw pillows.

The new front end of the 2021 Chrysler Pacifica looks great. It has a new grille with a neat diamond mesh, new air intakes and a stain-style finish. The new full width rear taillight setup is both old school and also very modern. A two layered arrangement provides traditional corner lighting with a single light bar running through the middle. It’s a good look.

AWD Pacifica will also use large front and rear brakes, new Michelin Premier all-season tires or self-sealing tires depending on your choice.

The new AWD system is apparently able to push all power to the rear wheels when needed. It uses a second clutch and a rear differential along with a three piece driveshaft to build a flexible AWD system that can share drive to wheels depending on road conditions. The new system has also been designed to be a frictionless as possible to minimize the gas mileage loss that usually comes with AWD.

The AWD will be fully automatic and will use sensors to decide when to use AWD and when to direct power to the front or rear. As far as we can tell, there is no manual control or differential lock so drivers don’t have to worry about a thing.

Another important feature of the new AWD system is that it has been designed to sit underneath the chassis and not eat into interior space or compromise the awesome Stow n’ Go system. If you want your seats to fold flat in an AWD Pacifica, you can.

AWD will be an option on 2021 Chrysler Pacifica manufactured at the end of this year. It will be available on Touring, Touring L, Limited and the new Pinnacle trims. It will not initially be available on hybrid versions due to the configuration of the batteries.

The 2021 Chrysler Pacifica will be available at the end of 2020. Visit Unique Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, 915 Walkers Line, Burlington, ON L7N 3V8 to learn more.
