The 2019 Ram 1500 is something else

640 × 480
I get to see all types of cars and trucks here at Car Nation Canada and it’s always hard to pick a favourite. That’s why I usually don’t bother. However, having spent a while alone with the 2019 Ram 1500, I’m finding it hard to not make this Ram my favourite vehicle of the year so far. Only the anticipation of the arrival of the Ford Ranger is making me hold my vote.

We sell a lot of Ram 1500 trucks. It’s a best seller and for very good reason. Not only does it compete on equal terms with the Ford F-150, when it comes to the cabin I think it does better. I was able to spend some time with the 2019 Ram 1500 over the weekend and I am impressed.

The size and shape of the 1500, although large, it manageable. It’s a good looking truck that carries itself and its cargo well. The suspension is compliant but not too soft. Firm but not harsh and manages to be the right ride at the right time thanks to that air suspension. I think this is a big selling point of Ram trucks. They ride well whether laden or empty and can handle most road surfaces with ease.

Quiet in there
The other thing I noticed about the truck was how quiet it was inside. The acoustic glass makes a real difference to how much road noise you hear while inside, even without the Active Noise Cancelling system you get.

The model I drove had the 12 inch touchscreen. The screen is detailed and responsive and has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto but I didn’t like the portrait orientation much. It sat well in the centre stack and is the only logical orientation given the space it has to sit in and it works for the reversing camera and navigation.

I drove the 2019 Ram 1500 Limited which had leather seats, that 12 inch touchscreen, leather and aluminium trim. It also had ambient lighting, that air suspension, Uconnect, Harmon Kardon audio and a ton of other stuff.

It also had the 5.7-litre Hemi V8 that always seemed to have power on tap. Four wheel drive, a slick automatic transmission and a very composed drive. While the Hemi has 395 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque on tap, it didn’t feel as though it wanted you to use all of that power at once. It was a very smooth drive that let you know the power was there if you needed it but didn’t shout at you that it was a Hemi. That surprised me and left me very happy with how Ram had configured the truck.

Regular readers will know I’m not really a truck guy but the 2019 Ram 1500 Limited is something that may change my mind. If you’re in the market for a luxurious truck that isn’t afraid to work, visit Unique Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, 915 Walkers Line, Burlington, ON  L7N 3V8.
