Stress-free ways to sell your car anywhere in Canada

Stress-free ways to sell your car anywhere in Canada

If you are thinking about selling your used car and are living in Canada, you are in luck. We have put together some easy-to-follow suggestions that will help you get the most value for your vehicle.

Used car prices have never been higher

The average price of a used car in Canada has skyrocketed since the onset of the pandemic and even though it appears we are on the tail-end of the pandemic the prices continue to rise.

Since the market for used cars is competitive and this is probably your first time trying to sell a car, there are many risks you need to take into consideration.

Where are you living? Canada is a mix of major urban centers like Montreal, Vancouver and Toronto coupled with thinly populated communities throughout the nation. If you are living in a rural area, it can be difficult finding local buyers that would be interested in buying your used car or have the cash on hand to buy the car.

On the other hand, if you are living in a major city, then you have to compete with other sellers.

Using online platforms to sell your used car

One way to reach the greatest number of potential sellers is by putting your used car for sale on platforms like Kijiji Autos.  These websites are popular with buyers but you will need to relist your advertisement daily or you will get lost in the mix. As new ads are being posted, your ad will go down the list until it goes on another page.

Social media is not a good option

You may be thinking about using social media to sell your used car. While social media works great for well-established brands like the Kardashians, you will have a difficult time finding legitimate buyers on the various social media platforms.

Generally speaking, the individuals who are on social media are not proactively looking to buy a car, they just want to shop around. The people who do contact you on social media will ask lots of what seems to be buying questions but they will typically come back with a very low offer or will ask you to “hold” the car while they try to arrange to finance. In either case, it can take some time for you to get paid, if you get paid at all.

There is also a considerable amount of fraud that takes place on social media, criminals could try and rip you off.

Instead of going through all of the headaches of selling a used car online, you can enlist the help of your local car dealership. All you need to do is drive your car to the dealership, they will perform an appraisal and if you accept the offer they make, you will get paid right away.

You will not get a 100% of the current value of your car because the dealership needs a margin so they can resell the car for a profit but you will get a reasonable amount and not have to deal with the stress of trying to sell the car.
