As if the F-150 Raptor wasn’t enough performance in a truck, Shelby has taken the Ford pickup a step further by giving it the Super Snake treatment. What began as a concept truck that many of us were hoping would come true one day is now hitting production.
First showcased at the 2019 SEMA Show, interest for the Shelby F-150 Super Snake Sport was so strong that you will soon be able to buy one yourself.
Trucks are still the best-seller from domestic brands so are fertile ground for special editions to help boost sales. The Shelby F-150 Super Snake Sport is a special edition that’s more than skin deep.
Super Snake Sport
The basis of the Shelby F-150 Super Snake Sport is a 5.0-litre V8 version of the truck. Shelby then bolts on a supercharger or leaves the engine with smaller tweaks. With the supercharger, the Super Snake will have 770 hp on tap. Without the supercharger, it will remain at 395 hp.
The supercharged version is said to go from 0-60 mph in 3.4 seconds which is impressive for a sports car let alone a truck!
Other upgrades for the Super Snake include lowered suspension featuring new control arms, new coilovers and shocks, new lower shackles at the rear to bring everything low. New brake rotors and new six piston Braer brakes will make sure you can stop quickly and safely.
The bodywork has had some attention too as you can see. There is a custom bodykit including new hood, new bumpers, new front grille, bed cover, vents and trim. There is also the stripe, some red trim elements and a nice set of black wheels to complete the look.
Inside, you get custom leather, aluminium pedals, carbon fibre trim and unique Super Snake badging.
Shelby say they will be building 250 Shelby F-150 Super Snake Sports beginning next year. Prices begin at $86,085 USD for the standard model rising to $93,385 for the supercharged version. That’s a lot of cash for not a lot more truck than standard.
The overall look is okay. It isn’t as attractive as a stock Raptor so its value is questionable unless you’re a diehard Shelby fan. The only version to go for here is the supercharged version with its 770 hp as the normally aspirated engine offers nothing more than new suspension for quite a price hike.
