Ram says no to taking on the Ranger but yes to new diesel

Ram says no to taking on the Ranger but yes to new diesel

640 × 480
Speculation that Ram were planning a smaller truck to take on the new Ford Ranger look to have been halted in its tracks. Ram have said directly at the New York Auto Show that they have no plans to expand its product range in the next few years. That means no smaller version of the 1500 to take on the new Ranger.

Lots of commentators and Ram fans like myself had hoped the company would come up with a variant to take on the Ranger. As much as I like the new Ford, I know that there is nothing like competition to keep standards high and innovation running apace. It seems the Ranger may have much of the market to itself for a little while.

On the flipside of that, Ram did say they are working on a six cylinder diesel that will fit into the Ram 1500 and Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Gladiator. The new engine will be in the range of 260 hp and 440 lb-ft of torque although Ram didn’t confirm it. Those torque levels would work in all three of those vehicles.

2019 Ram 1500
For now then, the 2019 Ram 1500 is the smallest truck from the automaker and is likely to stay that way. Good job it’s such a good performer whatever you ask of it!

The 2019 Ram 1500 is a good looking truck. It has taken the workmanlike design of older models and modernized it in all the right ways. It reflects the changing way we use trucks and makes it contemporary. The design is very simple, with flat panels with rounded edges and few embellishments, nice alloy wheels and decent light arrangements.

Inside, the truck is spacious and well laid out. The cabin is well put together with quality materials, great finishing, lots of technology and a logical layout. The balance has been struck by making it luxurious but also practical with hard wearing but soft materials.

Then there’s eTorque. The mild hybrid motor available on the 3.6-litre V6 and Hemi V8. It’s an electric motor that helps boost power when you need it most to add around 130 lb-ft of torque and adding around 2 mpg in gas mileage depending on how you drive.

Combined with the impressive five link rear suspension and great road manners, this truck drives like a sedan whether you’re unloaded, loaded or towing. With enough power for any situation, a slick transmission and great road manners, there is no mystery about why this truck is so popular.

With that new six cylinder diesel coming soon, the potential of the Ram 1500 just keeps on growing! Visit Unique Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, 915 Walkers Line, Burlington, ON  L7N 3V8 to learn more about it.
