Ram 1500 to sire SUV sibling?

Ram 1500 to sire SUV sibling?

640 × 480
Rumours are currently doing the rounds that one of the best trucks around might be getting an SUV sibling. Whispers at FCA are hinting that the automaker is thinking about using the very accomplished Ram 1500 platform as the base for an all-new full size SUV. FCA themselves haven’t commented yet.

Other rumours linked to this are that the Ram 1500-based SUV could be the Jeep Wagoneer we have all been waiting for. Whether there is any credence to these rumour or not we don’t know, but it has got us thinking.

The Ram 1500 is due for a redesign in the next couple of years and already has a very accomplished chassis and running gear. It could lend itself easily to running an SUV body whether in Wagoneer guise or something completely different. Would the SUV use the existing chassis and engine or would the new 2019 Ram 1500 split off into an SUV and truck?

Only time will tell on that one but it is most definitely food for thought!

2016 Ram 1500
This iteration of the Ram 1500 has been around since 2009 and while it is in line for an update, it doesn’t feel like it. The design, the drive, the comfort, technology and capability stand up against its closest competitors with ease and will happily take on market leaders.

The design is blunt but in a nice way. The unfussy design works very well indeed and manages to balance masculinity with practicality in a way that doesn’t put people off driving one. A huge front end, simple panel designs all round, decent-sized load bed and coil suspension at the back are all significant selling points.

As is the interior. The 2016 Ram 1500 has one of the best cabins in the business. It is well put together, nicely laid out, well specified and as comfortable as a truck can be. The rotary shifter takes a little getting used to but soon becomes second nature once you are.

Under that huge hood is one of several capable engines. Standard is a 3.6-litre V6 that produces 305 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque. There is also a 5.7-litre V8 that produces 395 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque or a 3.0-litre diesel V6 that produces 240 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque. All use a six or eight speed automatic transmission.

The V6 can tow up to 7,610 pounds and carry up to 1,890, the diesel can tow 9,210 and carry 1,600 and the V8 tows up to 10,640 pounds and carries up to 1,800.

The 2016 Ram 1500 is one of the best trucks on the market bar none. Visit Unique Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, 915 Walkers Line, Burlington, ON  L7N 3V8 and see for yourself! Save time at the dealership! Fill out the finance pre-approval form here.
