Production begins on 2016 Ford Focus RS

Ford announced last Friday that production has official begun on the much anticipated 2016 Ford Focus RS. With the hot hatch market once more full of life, energy and innovations, now is a good time for a release. Designed to compete with the Golf R and Honda Civic Type R, the Focus RS is probably the most eagerly awaited hatchback of the year.

The 2016 Ford Focus RS has all the practicality of a hatch. With five doors, room for four adults and cargo space in back. Visibility is good, interior space is surprisingly generous and all those benefits of a car shaped as this are still present and correct. None of the cramped spaces, sparse interiors or comfort compromises of other sports or tuned cars here!

Add in a performance powertrain and lots of goodies with a 0–60 time of 4.7 seconds and you have a whole lot of fun in a tidy little package!

2016 Ford Focus RS
You know the 2016 Ford Focus RS is different from the first moment you see it. While it has the standard Focus shape, it also has an aggressive body kit overlay, lower, wider stance and big alloys to tell you it is something completely different.

The front end of the RS still looks a bit like a Focus with the shark mouth grille and headlights, but that’s where similarities end. The body kit has bulked out the lower sill, fog light surrounds and made room for the intercooler. Part of the lower grille has been blanked out too with an RS badge to one side. Just in case you missed the fact that this is not a standard Focus.

Lowered side sills, big rooftip spoiler, body coloured brake callipers and a nice rear body kit complete the look.

Inside, the 2016 Ford Focus RS is more mainstream but has a few neat touches. Bucket seats, a race-oriented steering wheel with flattened bottom and three extra gauges hint at something a bit different.

The big news with the 2016 Ford Focus RS is the mechanicals. It is powered by a turbocharged 2.3-litre four cylinder EcoBoost that delivers 350 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque. It uses a six-speed manual transmission to send power to all wheels. It is the first Ford in a long time to use AWD and is all the better for it.

Why? Drift Mode. Another treat for 2016 Ford Focus RS owners. It partially disables the stability control system and softens the steering input so allow you to have real fun with the car. As long as you have the skill to control it and somewhere safe to let rip, it is an awesome addition to what is already an awesome car!
