New Nissan Altima spied

We tend not
to go in for spy shots of new models as they don't always offer much in the way
of a forward look. When we got to see shots of the potential 2016 Nissan Altima
though, we decided to ignore that trend. We like the Altima, it's one of our
go-to sedans and a great seller here at Car Nation Canada, so we though we
would feature the car that might be coming.

As you can
see from the watermark on the image, it isn't ours, so full credit to Spiedbilde
for catching the images first.

impressions of what could be the 2016 Nissan Altima shows it coming more into
line with the Nissan Murano and Rogue with that V-Motion grille. Fortunately,
the current design has maintained a respectable distance from the new Maxima,
allowing both to find their own markets and not stray into each others

The spy
shots don't tell us much else apart from that. The size is roughly the same,
the shape is familiar and the design retains the character of the Altima. It
just remains to see it at a reveal sometime soon.

2015 Nissan Altima

The current
Nissan Altima is a best selling family sedan and for good reason. It's the
right size, right spec, right power, right level of comfort and the right
price. There are few family cars that hit so many sweet spots, but the Altima
is one of them.

The design
is current, modern without being too out there and sensible without being
boring. It's that ideal middle ground that provides a family car that's
suitable for any purpose, anywhere.

Under the
hood is either a 2.5-litre four cylinder that produces 182 hp and 180 lb-ft of
torque or a 3.5-litre six that delivers 270 hp and 251 lb-ft of torque. Both
use a CVT transmission to send power to the front wheels. Fuel economy and
performance is good on either engine.

There are
two trim levels decided by the engine you select as well as the trim. So there
is 2.5 base, S, SV, SL. For the 3.5, there is just SL trim. The base Altima 2.5
offers steel wheels, power everything, 4.3 inch LCD gauge display, Bluetooth
and a four speaker CD system. The S adds auto lighting, keyless entry and
ignition, cruise control and six speaker audio.

The Altima
SV adds 17 inch alloys, fog lights, power driver's seat, dual zone climate
control, leather steering wheel, 5 inch touchscreen, reversing camera,
satellite radio and remote start. The 2.5 SL adds LED lighting, heated steering
wheel, leather interior, heated seats and Bose audio. The 3.5 SL adds a 7 inch
touchscreen, voice control, navigation, blind spot monitoring, cross traffic
alert and lane departure warning.

The 2015
Nissan Altima is an exceptionally good car that really is everything to
everyone. Check it out at Collins Nissan, 155 Scott St., St. Catharines, ON
