New 2021 Kia Stinger shown in Europe

As well as the 2021 Kia Sorento, Kia has been busy preparing the new Stinger for its debut. That debut happened last week in Europe.

The image above is Euro-spec but should give a good idea of what Canadian buyers can expect when it arrives on our shores.

The version of the 2021 Kia Stinger we got to see had new LED headlights, new LED running lights, a new set of taillights, revised tiger nose grille and a new optional quad exhaust system. Some models will also have access to new alloy wheels and rear diffuser.

Inside, the 2021 Kia Stinger is largely the same. That’s a good thing as the cabin is one of the best examples around. It’s a very comfortable place to spend time with sumptuous upholstery, driver-oriented controls, a 10.25 inch touchscreen and a frameless rearview mirror.

Kia has also upgraded the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) to include blind spot monitoring that displays in the instrument cluster. We also expect the new ADAS system to include Safe Exit Warning, Lane Following Assist, Rear Occupant Alert and Highway Driving Assist.

Under the hood

Under that long, low hood is now just a single engine option. The 3.3-litre V6 that produces 365 hp and 376 lb-ft of torque. It uses am eight speed automatic transmission that sends power to the rear or all wheels.

That means the end of the 2.0-litre and the 2.5-litre engines. Of all the engines available, Kia says the vast majority of buyers opted for the V6. Given the look and feel of the Stinger, I’m not surprised. It was the only engine to go for really. Now it’s your only option.

In Europe, the V6 comes with an electronic exhaust system that adds 3 hp onto the total. We aren’t likely to get that here.

Other changes for the Stinger

Other upgrades for the 2021 Kia Stinger includes a new 64 colour customisable ambient lighting system for the cabin. It is complemented by a series of new interior finishes, including Saturn Black, Red, Beige and Dark Brown.

A new option for contrasting stitching on doors and the dashboard is also available.

The 2021 Kia Stinger is slated for a Q4 2020 or Q1 2021 release. We don’t know exactly when we’ll get it here but I’ll let you know as soon as we do. Otherwise, visit Grimsby Kia, 435 South Service Road Grimsby, ON L3M 4E8 to register your interest.
