New 2021 Ford F-150 to debut June 25

New 2021 Ford F-150 to debut June 25

Ford’s eagerly awaited new truck is coming this month. After coronavirus-related delays, the 2021 Ford F-150 will now debut on June 25. The debut will be done online. It’s a big change for the automotive world but at least the new Ford truck is coming!

This will be the 14th generation of Ford’s market dominating truck. Had we been living in normal times, the debut would have happened weeks ago as it would have done for lots of new models. But we are where we are and I say better late than never!

While we have an idea of what to expect with the 2021 Ford F-150, we don’t know much for sure. One downside of the pandemic is that leaks and rumours have been much harder to come by for some vehicles.

2021 Ford F-150

The 2021 Ford F-150 is going to be more evolution than revolution. Don’t expect any huge changes here. There are subtle changes to the look, the interior, safety kit and mechanicals though.

The new truck will also lay the groundwork for the electric model sometimes in the near future.

We expect to see a modest change to the front end with a new grille, perhaps a new light surround or design, new sills and maybe slight tweaks to the profile. The same for the rear end. Nothing too obvious, just tweaked lighting and maybe a different bumper design or something minor.

Inside, we expect modest update to the cabin with upgrades to materials and surfaces, perhaps some new safety tech and minor layout updates. The interior of the F-150 is already first class so there isn’t anything major that needs to be updated in there.

Engine and mechanicals

It is under the skin that we expect to find real changes. We will still get the range of engines, the 2.7-litre, 3.5-litre, the turbodiesel and the 3.3-litre. There are also rumours that the 5.0-litre V8 will make a comeback.

We also expect to see a mild hybrid electric motor setup similar to Ram. This will aid the engine to generate torque at low revs and work much that in the Ram 1500. There are rumours that the motor will also act as a generator like in Toyota SUVs.

This will of course pave the way for a full electric variant of the F-150, although that model is not expected until next year at the very earliest.

We always look forward to new models of trucks and the new F-150 is no different. It may not deliver the massive changes some of us would like in any new car but the truck is so good, there isn’t much Ford could do that would deliver that wow factor. The most we could hope for is a better truck with new looks and some new toys to play with.

Production is apparently slated for later this year with deliveries in Q4 2020. The order book is expected to open July 15. Contact Northway Ford Lincoln for more details.
