If you were fortunate enough to be chosen to own one of the new 2017 Ford GT, you might also be the lucky owner of a now completed model. Ford announced that the very first GT of this run has just rolled off the assembly line and is almost ready.

The new model was built at Multimatic in Markham, Ontario and rolled off the line on December 16. The new model presumably needs preparing and shipping before the lucky owner gets the keys but it won’t be long now. What a Christmas present that will be!

2017 Ford GT
The 2017 Ford GT is about much more than just power. It’s about a mainstream automaker trying to keep up with the likes of Ferrari, McLaren and Lamborghini and succeeding. Ford said the GT was ‘Engineered to keep company with exotics’ and boy did they get that right.

With a well-orchestrated debut and some success at Le Mans, the 2017 Ford GT made the kind of entrance we would all like to make if we were hitting limelight. You don’t need me to tell you how good this thing looks. It looks awesome! The design is a triumph of heritage and modernity that hearkens back to the original while still keeping room for active aerodynamics and other trickery to keep it on the road.

Inside is going to be quite Spartan. The two passenger seats are close together, which was the design intent. The seats are static but the steering column is movable, as are the pedals. The driving position is low and planted, with all the controls on the steering wheel for maximum convenience.

One thing that did originally surprise us but didn’t at the same time was the engine. We expected a big V8 to deliver the power necessary to keep up. Like the exotics with their V10s and V12s, we thought the low slung Ford would use a big engine. But no, a mere 3.5-litre twin turbo V6 delivers all the power you need in a car like this. We don’t know much else about it right now except that it will generate north of 600 hp.

Ford won’t tell us how much power the engine generates as last time we checked it was still undergoing certification. Presumably with the first model off the line, that has all passed now and they know what is under that body shell even if we don’t!

We likely won’t get to see a 2017 Ford GT here at Car Nation Canada as I don’t know of anyone up here who got onto the list. However, we do have the rest of the Ford range at some seriously competitive prices. Visit Northway Ford Lincoln, 388 King George Road Brantford ON N3S 3N2 to see what you could save!
