Most Affordable Trucks Are Ford's Ranger & F-150

The Ford Ranger and Ford F-150 have been named the most affordable trucks to own in Kelley Blue Book’s 10th Five Year Cost to Own Awards. It’s another set of awards for the trucks that seem to have taken the world by storm.

The Ranger won the midsize pickup segment while the F-150 won the fill size pickup segment for the most affordable trucks.

Another pair of accolades for Ford!

Kelley Blue Book’s Five Year Cost to Own Awards

We all know Kelley Blue Book, but not everyone knows their Five Year Cost to Own Awards. It considers the vehicles with the lowest projected ownerships costs over five years.

It takes into account depreciation, fuel, finance, insurance, maintenance, taxes and potential repair costs.

“Choosing a car with low ownership costs can help shoppers save a significant amount of money over time – often several hundred and sometimes even thousands of dollars – so it’s worthwhile to research the cost to own details of any new car you’re considering,” said Eric Ibara, director of residual values for Kelley Blue Book.

The 2021 Chrysler Voyager was also mentioned as the best minivan in the study.

2021 Ford Ranger

The Ford Ranger has been around for years in other regions but has taken North America by surprise with its good looks and flexible persona.

One minute it can be your daily driver, the next doing the school run and another helping your friends move house. It’s a genuinely flexible vehicle that happens to look pretty good too.

The design is similar to the F-150 but also different enough to be its own vehicle. It’s smaller, lighter and easier to drive around town too.

What you need to know

The 2021 Ford Ranger uses a 2.3-litre turbocharged four cylinder to deliver 270 hp and 310 lb-0ft of torque. It is mated to Ford’s 10 speed automatic transmission to provide power to the rear wheels. AWD is an option.

It’s a great combination with a lightweight engine capable of delivering decent power and that slick transmission that slides through the gears.

The Ranger is available in XL, XLT and Lariat trims with more comfort and technology being added to each. The XLT trim gives you an 8.0 inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, two USB ports, keyless start, dual-zone climate control and alloy wheels.

This seems the sweet spot right now with buyers.

Being comfortable, easy to drive, flexible in its use and cost efficient to run, there is every reason to check out the 2021 Ford Ranger if you’re in the market for a new truck. With KBB saying ownership costs are over $2,000 USD lower than competitors, it’s just one more reason to try it!
