Mazda3 awarded Best Small Car in Canada for 2020 by AJAC

Mazda3 awarded Best Small Car in Canada for 2020 by AJAC

This week we will be celebrating how well some of Car Nation Canada’s brands did at this year’s 2020 Canadian Car of the Year awards. While the official awards will be handed out at the Canadian International AutoShow in Toronto, the winners were announced at the Montreal Auto Show. One winner was our favourite little Mazda.

The Automobile Journalists’ Association of Canada (AJAC) holds annual awards for best vehicles over a bunch of categories. Those winners are then weighed and measured to deliver the 2020 Canadian Car of the Year and 2020 Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year. The category winners were announced at Montreal while the overall winners will be announced in Toronto next month.

Best Small Car in Canada for 2020

One of the categories was Best Small Car in Canada for 2020 and the winner was the Mazda3.

The 2020 Mazda3 comes as a sedan or hatch and both have equal appeal. The design is thoroughly modern with smooth lines, a great front end with big grille and angled lights, raked windshield and short rounded roof and a tidy rear with small light clusters. It is rounded off by accents around the front and rear wheels to give the car a real sense of purpose.

Inside, the Mazda3 is more spacious than its size might lead you to believe. Mazda takes its interior build quality seriously and it shows. The materials are all soft touch with trim accents, comfortable seating and that reassuring sound of quality whenever you close the door or flick a switch.

2020 Mazda3

The 2020 Mazda3 uses a 2.5-litre four cylinder engine that produces 186 hp. It’s a normally aspirated engine with no turbo and a smooth power curve throughout the rev range. It is paired with a six speed automatic or manual transmission that sends power to the front or all wheels.

The drive is smooth, steering direct and well balanced. All things you expect from a modern Mazda. There is space inside for four adults to sit in comfort with some cargo in back. Rear seats are comfortable and even taller adults have enough space to travel comfortably. It is a very well designed little car.

Mazda always specs lots of safety kit on their cars and the Mazda3 is no different. Automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, active lane control, blind-spot monitors and rear cross-traffic alert come as standard on all models while a heads-up display is an option.

It isn’t a surprise that the Mazda3 has been awarded Best Small Car in Canada for 2020. It’s an excellent vehicle with a lot of great qualities. It doesn’t hurt that it looks so good either!
