Last chance to catch a Viper

Last chance to catch a Viper

640 × 480
The announcement of the demise of the Dodge Viper seems to have been a little premature. Dodge have revealed that they will briefly re-open the order books between now and the new year for just a few more cars.

Earlier this year we saw a few special editions play the final farewell to the inimitable car but it seems the Viper wasn’t quite done. All of those special editions were quickly snapped up, mostly in the U.S. so now is your chance to buy the last ones for real this time. These are apparently really the last ones.

According to sources within Dodge, there are enough spares lying around the factory to put a few more Vipers together so that’s exactly what will happen. Presumably they will hang onto a few of these parts for spares and warranty replacements but the rest will be put back into rotation for these final models.

The sources don’t actually say which model of Viper they have the parts for. Considering the number of special editions we have seen over the past couple of years, it could be all manner of versions. The result of putting them all together into one model could be interesting!

2016 Dodge Viper
I like the 2016 Dodge Viper. Sure it’s old fashioned, rough around the edges, uncomfortable and not very nice to be a passenger in. However, if you’re the one behind the wheel, all that changes. It’s like being strapped to a jet fighter. The seats hold you tight, the wheel vibrates with power and the pedal is just waiting to unleash the banshee under the hood.

Under the hood of a standard Viper is an 8.4-litre V10 engine that produces 645 hp and 600 lb-ft of torque. It sends power to the rear through a six speed manual transmission.

The 2016 Dodge Viper came in five trim levels: SRT, GT, GTC, GTS and ACR. Each trim got steadily more ferocious and track focused, especially the ACR. While a fair amount of features were on offer, it was all about the power and the experience rather than refinement and technology. We, and most of the people who bought one, were fine with that.

The Viper was ripe for retirement but I will miss it. There is nothing else on the market right now that is as raw or as ferocious as this car. So if you’re going to miss it too, get in touch with Unique Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, 915 Walkers Line, Burlington, ON  L7N 3V8 and get your order in as soon as the book opens!
