Kia to keep Stinger relevant with lots of special editions

Kia to keep Stinger relevant with lots of special editions

640 × 480
As if the fast Kia needed any help to sell, the Korean automaker has announced a program of special editions and model variants to help keep it popular. The Kia Stinger has been almost universally lauded for its drive, looks, performance and value. It has to have been one of the most positive model launches ever for the company. They now want to maintain that momentum by keeping things fresh.

In an interview with AutoGuide, Kia North America product planner Orth Hedrick had a few interesting things to say about the company’s plans for the Stinger.

“We’re looking at it (different Stinger variants),” Hedrick said. “The reaction has been phenomenal to (the Stinger). We’re doing great, we have a very high mix of buyers, a lot coming from Optima, so we’re looking to see if we can grow that. And I think there might be other opportunities down the road.”

“It’s a little early yet, we just got the car on the market, and we still have a handful of dealers who have never sold one yet. We’ll probably wait for a while to get some data in and see what the reaction will be, how people feel about the brand, and then we’ll probably build (the Stinger lineup) out from there.”

“We’re going to be very aggressive for the lifecycle of this vehicle, we’re going to be very aggressive with the colours,” he said. “It’s a fashion statement. You have to keep the car going with powertrain variants and other stuff coming down the road. I think this is something that we have to keep fresh. It’s a ‘want’ car, so it will be like ‘what’s new, what do you guys have that’s new?’”

It is an interesting viewpoint and very valid too. The Stinger can work as a commuter or everyday vehicle for some, but not for many. Keeping the model fresh and interesting is definitely going to attract new buyers as well as make existing buyers love theirs more.

2018 Kia Stinger
The 2018 Kia Stinger is a successful model so far it seems. With sales figures showing its popularity across the continent and the upcoming Atlantica special edition already getting a lot of interest, the Stinger is definitely a success story for Kia.

The design is fantastic, the interior perfectly matched and the entire package is a comprehensive one indeed. Even the 2.0-litre engine produces 255 hp while the 3.3-litre V6 delivers 365 hp. Both use a slick eight speed automatic transmission to power the rear or all wheels. A manual is not an option right now but perhaps it could be part of Kia’s plans.
