Kia teases new EV
Kia teases new EV

Kia have released a teaser image of a new electric vehicle ahead of the Geneva Motor Show. Kia is one of the many automakers releasing teasers ahead of the show in what is becoming the normal order of things, to whet our appetite in advance of the main course at the show.
The new EV looks pretty good if that teaser image is anything to go by. It is supposed to be a performance EV, if such a thing can exist and has all the hallmarks of a performance sedan. The long, curved hood with centre bulge and detailing, wide wheel arches, low front splitter and that futuristic light setup have certainly whet my appetite that’s for sure!
‘Automotive design is about capturing the heart and making it beat that bit faster for that bit longer - and we believe that there's absolutely no reason why that should change simply because the car is electric,’ says Kia Motors Europe design VP Gregory Guillaume.
Kia EVs
Kia have two EVs available right now, the Niro EV and Soul EV. Both sell reasonably well but both are sensible, family-oriented vehicles. This new car could offer something more sporty for the single person or the young at heart.
We know Kia has big plans for electric vehicles. Along with partner company Hyundai, Kia want to have over twenty EVs in its range within five years.
The Kia Niro EV is a very competent crossover that balances practicality with great looks, decent range and all the technology you could squeeze into a dashboard.
The Kia Soul EV is a fun little car with a big heart. With good range, set to be extended to 243 miles in the 2020 model, great looks and a funky personality that is hard to dislike.
Both vehicles are popular with EV buyers and continue to sell well. A combination of decent range, great looks, no compromise in performance or style and very competitive pricing has ensured their success if nothing else has.
I definitely think EVs are the way to go. As intended, Formula E has shown that electric vehicles can perform and can be as good looking and as competitive as internal combustion cars. As soon as prices become more palatable and ranges increase like the new Soul, I think we will see an explosion in EVs on Canada’s roads.
