You either love or hate shows like SEMA. I happen to love them. Sure I wouldn’t want to drive many of the vehicles that show there but it does illustrate what is possible with mainstream motors if you apply a little imagination and a lot of body kit. The Kia Stinger is one such example. The new fast Kia is getting the SEMA treatment ready for the show.
The show, which opens today, features lots of outlandish and highly customized vehicles from across the world. Some are pure works of fancy and would never work on the road. Others are slightly more realistic and could go down extremely well depending on how well they are realized.
This Kia Stinger variant is a joint effort by Kia and West Coast Customs from California. According to reports, the car will feature a body kit that includes wider fenders and wheel arches, a customized front end with lower splitter and a complicated rear with a diffuser and lots of detailing. Expect a set of cool rims and lots of other neat stuff too.
As SEMA opens today, the SEMA Stinger may be viewable in the flesh right now.
2018 Kia Stinger
With the Stinger, Kia is flying in the face of convention. While many buyers are switching from cars to crossovers and SUVs, Kia has created an old school GT car with rear wheel drive. It is a gamble as utility seems to be the name of the game right now but I think it’s a gamble that will pay off.
The 2018 Kia Stinger comes in two guises, the standard Stinger with a 255 hp turbocharged 2.0-litre four cylinder engine or the GT. The GT has a 3.3-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine that is good for 365 hp. With rear wheel drive, AWD is optional, and a traditional GT car setup, this is a world away from a crossover SUV.
With blistering performance, great driving characteristics and a very friendly price, the 2018 Kia Stinger is definitely a car to watch. If you’re more into sports cars than sensible cars, this is one of the few new models coming that will excite.
