We are eagerly awaiting the Kia Stinger GT here at Car Nation Canada. While the market for a rear wheel drive sports sedan is small, it is hard fought and a car that makes it here can make it anywhere. We have seen the new sporty Kia go the Nürburgring, we have seen it at the shows, now we can see it being thrown around a track in Korea.
A couple of videos have come to light showing Kia Stinger GT in action with a helpful graphical overlay showing 0-100kph, horsepower, torque and a few other stats. All make me want one of these just a little more.
Here are the two videos:
2018 Kia Stinger GT
The specs for the Korean version may differ from the model we get here in Canada but the headline figures look good anyway. The video shows the twin turbo 3.3-litre V6 engine delivers 370hp and 376 lb-ft of torque. It can 0 – 100kph in around 6 seconds and weights 3,935 lbs.
We have both Peter Schreyer and Albert Biermann to thank for this car. The former, was a designer at Audi and how head of Kia. The latter, was head of the M-division at BMW and is now head of performance and testing at Kia. Both have combined their awesome skills to help deliver the 2018 Kia Stinger GT.
Adapted from the Genesis G80 coupe, the Stinger GT is now a car all of its own. Rather than chase pure performance, the Stinger GT has struck the middle ground. Rather than go the route of harsh suspension and no body roll, the Stinger GT has a little bit of both with enough grip and stability to remind you that this is a GT car but with a little bit of luxury thrown in.
That means it isn’t going after BMW or Maserati either. The 2018 Kia Stinger GT is content to make its own way in the world and will be much better for it. Modern Kia have a unique character that is steadily making headway in our consciousness. While we do tend to remain loyal to our domestic brands, when something better comes along that gives us more for less, we aren’t shy about making room for it. That is exactly where the 2018 Kia Stinger GT is going to sit in the market.
The 2018 Kia Stinger GT is due for release sometime in January 2018. Register your interest at Georgetown Kia, 199 and 314 Guelph Street, Georgetown, Ontario and we will keep you updated of developments!
