Kia Sorento passes 1 million units in North America
Posted on May 10, 2017
The 2017 Kia Sorento is a great looking SUV that is proving very popular with buyers across Canada. We have sold dozens of them and requests keep coming in. So it’s no surprise that last week Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia, Inc announced the one millionth Sorento to roll off the production line at its plant in West Point.
This is good news for manufacturing and good news for Kia. With all the scaremongering about globalization and manufacturing shifting to Asia, this is a case in point that the industry is far from offshored.
Kia began manufacturing the Sorento in the US in 2009, last week it hit 1 million units manufactured and isn’t stopping there.
‘The Sorento is a special product to our KMMG team as it was the first vehicle assembled at our Georgia plant," said KMMG CEO Harrison Shin. "Our team is committed to building the best vehicles in the world right here in West Point, Georgia and we dedicate ourselves to world-class quality each day.’
2017 Kia Sorento
The 2017 Kia Sorento is a very accomplished SUV and a demonstration of how far the Korean automaker has travelled in its short life. The design is excellent, engines refined and the overall package is practical and affordable.
Despite increasing features and quality across the board, Kia still offers amazing value.
After last year’s redesign, the 2017 Kia Sorento is maturing quickly. It cuts a handsome figure on the driveway and on the road and offers the kind of looks people are looking for. Something simple but effective, SUV-like but not too masculine, modern but without all the fiddly bits or sharp panels.
On the inside, the 2017 Kia Sorento doesn’t disappoint. It is spacious, with two or three rows, well-built and ready to rock. The driving position is comfortable, passenger spaces are well proportioned and materials across the cabin are first class. This year brings Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration too.
There are two engine options, a 2.4-litre four that produces 185 hp and 178 lb-ft of torque and a 3.3-litre V6 that produces 290hp and 252 lb-ft of torque. Both use a six speed automatic transmission to send power to the front or all wheels.
The whole package looks and feels fantastic. Considering the price, the Sorento competes very well against more well established competitors both on features and price.
