Kia concept due at Frankfurt

Kia concept due at Frankfurt

I always enjoy seeing a new Kia concept car. While we may never see anything like it in production, it is good to see where their head is at when it comes to design and innovation. This new wagon-style concept vehicle is just that kind of vehicle.

A press release that accompanied the image said the concept is part of the Pro-cee’d family, a European vehicle similar to the Forte. Regarded as a ‘shooting-brake style’ wagon, this new concept has a very sleek look about it. According to Kia it is an ‘extended hatch’ rather than a full station wagon.

The teaser image doesn’t give much away except the shape and design intent. We see a long front end with a curve that flows down to the grille and lower sill. A tiny part of a headlight can be seen at the corner but nothing else.

The hood flows into a raked windshield and over quite the curved roof into the rear aspect. The side profile includes heavily fluted side panels that allow a side skirt style detail to show and the wheel arches to stand proud.

At the back, what presumably will be an integrated light cluster sits invisibly into the rear bodywork while a rear valance offers detailing on the rear.

The four door vehicle is just a concept but looks very nice indeed. If you were looking for a family vehicle that wasn’t a crossover and wanted something with a little sportiness to remind you of a misspent youth, this could certainly be it.

Rumour central says this concept would share the same platform as the Hyundai Elantra and Elantra GT with a range of four cylinder turbo and NA engines. Nothing has been confirmed yet but it isn’t beyond the realms of possibility that it could have a sporty version to complement the Stinger GT.

The alloy wheels on the concept and the way they have been placed as close to each corner as possible may indicate sporty ideas. We shall have to wait and see. We know very little about this Kia concept except that it will be showing at the Frankfurt motor show on 12 September. I shall keep an eye on developments and update as soon as we learn anything new.

In the meantime, the existing range of Kia vehicles is pretty stylish too. Check them out at Kia of Hamilton, 1885 Upper James St, Hamilton ON, L9B 1K8!
