Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer make a welcome return

Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer make a welcome return

Jeep has brought back the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer SUVs. The return of these two nameplates has been talked about for a while now and the time has finally come. The Jeep Wagoneer and Jeep Grand Wagoneer have finally made their comeback.

Both SUVs are a size up from the Grand Cherokee and have been designed to target the dominance of the Escalade and Tahoe. It’s said to be on par with the Audi Q8 and Range Rover in terms of luxury, so it will be very interesting to see how it performs once released.

Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer

The Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer are a divergence from the main Jeep line. Rather than being SUVs that can go off road, these are luxury SUVs for the road only. They aren’t designed to compete on the rough stuff but instead on luxury, technology and features.

The brand says they are ‘born from Jeep’ but aren’t in the same spirit as other models.

Jeep says they are intended for a more luxury-oriented customer.

“These people live life to the fullest. They enjoy every bit of it. They don’t let friends, status symbols or someone else’s expectation define them, or limit them,” Meunier noted. “No, they are in charge, and they are free. They are free to follow their own path and change it as many times as they want. They don’t seek the perfect life.

“Perfection to them is cold, because it is something unremarkable rational and repeatable. Their life is beautiful because it’s unique, it’s emotional and it’s intense. In a collection of imperfect moments that become memorable experiences. When you leave such a fulfilling life you choose a vehicle with a personality.”

The design certainly looks like a Jeep and that’s a good thing. It’s similar enough to be instantly familiar while different enough to be something else. The signature front grille is present, along with big lights, LED driving lights and lots of chrome.

This is a boxier design that should maximize interior space. It’s a big vehicle but not imposing, softened by rounded edges and lack of panel detailing.

We haven’t seen inside yet but we fully expect the full leather treatment with acres of passenger and cargo space.

There will be three trim levels called Series I, Series II and Series III. Each will be a step up in terms of luxury but all will come with seating for up to eight passengers, leather interior, plenty of storage, a touchscreen, adjustable seating and lots of safety tech and driver aids.

We expect equally spacious trunk space for shopping, luggage or cargo even when all the seats are upright.

The engine is supposed to be a 5.7-litre V8 with mild hybrid support for 392 hp and 404 lb-ft of torque. It will be mated to an eight speed automatic transmission to drive the rear or all wheels.
