Jeep outs concepts for annual Easter Jeep Safari

The annual Moab Easter Jeep Safari is not only an opportunity to go off road in a big way. It’s also an opportunity to see exactly what you can do with a Jeep, a workshop and enough imagination. Jeep usually come up with some cool concepts for the event and this year is no different.

There are seven Jeep concepts this year, many of which were built with stock Jeeps and parts. A couple are cutting edge while a couple are very definitely retro. We like them all.

The Jeep Trailcat concept is probably our favourite. It’s a tough off-roader that uses the 6.2-litre Hellcat V8 engine pushing out 707 hp through a six speed manual transmission. It uses a custom shifter, longer chassis, big wheels, a roll cage and the kind of green colour you’re not going to miss.

The Jeep Crew Chief 715 is a retro design that tips a respectful nod to the Kaiser M715 military pickup. It has a five-foot cargo bed at the back, 20 inch beadlock wheels with 40 inch military off road tyres and an onboard air compressor.

The Jeep Shortcut is a look back at the original CJ-5 and is a short wheelbase concept that takes a new look at the company’s heritage. It has bright red paintwork with 17 inch red wheels, a chassis that is 12 inches shorter than usual, two inch lift kit and 35 inch tyres.

The Jeep Renegade Commander is a new and striking concept that uses 17 inch wheels with 29.5 inch BFGoodrich All-Terrain tyres, rock rails, skid plates, modified exhaust, roof rails and more.

The Jeep Comanche is a modified Jeep Renegade that has been stretched by 6 inches and provided with a five foot load bed. It also has a 2.0-litre diesel engine, soft roof, winch up front, 32 inch off road tyres with a spare in back and one of the best colour names we have ever heard, “Beige Against the Machine.”

599 × 389
The Jeep FC 150 is another nod to heritage with a definite retro design. It is a modified Wrangler that has a FC 150 body from 1960 attached. It also has a 4.0-litre engine with three speed automatic transmission, Dana front and rear axle and 17 inch wheels with 33 inch BFGoodrich Mud Terrain tyres.

The Jeep Trailstorm is another modern concept built from Mopar spares. It uses a two inch lift kit, half doors, 17 inch wheels with 37 inch tyres, canvas roof, winch at the front, LED lighting, big bumpers, big brakes, camo pattern bodywork and a power-dome hood.

We like all of these concepts for very different reasons, as we do every year. While the Trailcat is definitely the favourite, the retro models are also very cool.
