Jeep hinting the return of the Wagoneer

Jeep hinting the return of the Wagoneer

Jeep has been very busy of late with new models coming left, right and centre. I’m sure it has nothing whatsoever to do with the arrival of the Ford Bronco. Adding to that list of new models is perhaps a new Jeep Wagoneer. If recent hints are to be believed anyway.

Whatever the motive behind the new releases, buyers benefit. New models, improvements to existing models and special editions all offer buyers more choice and the opportunity to drive something a little different than everyone else. That could be true with the Jeep Wagoneer if these hints are anything to go by.

Jeep has shown two images. One, above, shows part of a Wagoneer badge. The other shows a push button starter that is thought to be playing a part in the updated Jeep. Both are believed to be part of a Wagoneer concept car to be shown in the very near future.

Jeep Wagoneer

We don’t know anything about the new model as yet. We think there will be a Jeep Wagoneer and a larger Jeep Grand Wagoneer. We think they will sit above the Grand Cherokee in terms of size and luxury but nothing is confirmed as yet.

The spy shots we have seen had three rows of seating. We expect that to be true for production.

We also think the Jeep Wagoneer will have off road ability. Not as much as the Wrangler but more than the Cherokee. That is still up for debate though.

Rumour central has the frame based off a Ram 1500 truck with engines likely from the same. That could include the Pentastar V6, a diesel V6 and perhaps the Hemi V8. There is also talk of the inclusion of the eTorque technology within the engines too.

It is likely that the main eight speed automatic transmission to be included along with rear and all-wheel drive options.

Under the skin

We think it very likely that the Jeep Wagoneer will come fully loaded. That means potentially, USB charging ports, a 7 or 10 inch touchscreen infotainment system, optional leather upholstery, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility and perhaps ambient lighting.

Safety tech should be well covered too with a mixture of blind-spot monitors with rear cross-traffic alert, parking sensors adaptive cruise control, automated emergency braking, lane-keeping assist and perhaps a surround view camera.

The Jeep Wagoneer is likely still a way off production but Jeep are planning to reveal a concept soon. We’ll keep an ear to the ground to update you when we hear more.
