Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk sets ice lake record
Posted on May 7, 2019
Scrolling through YouTube this morning, I happened across a video of a Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. Not unusual in its own right but this video was different. It featured a Jeep exported to Russia doing 174mph on a frozen lake. Not your typical day out for this big Jeep.
The video is here:
It shows a very cool looking Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk competing at the annual Speed Days of the Baikal Ice Motor Sports Festival at Lake Baikal in Russia.
The Trackhawk in question had been lightened as much as possible to perform the run and achieved an average of 160mph with a top speed of 174mph. The record was set from a rolling start. This is an official record, confirmed by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) and the Russian Automobile Federation (RAF).
For now at least, the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is the fastest SUV on ice as well as one of the fastest SUVs ever!
2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk
The Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is two of our favourite things. A big SUV that looks amazing and seats the whole family and a muscle car with the grunt and the soundtrack to match.
Jeep took the Grand Cherokee platform and nailed the 6.2-litre supercharged Hellcat engine into it. That gives this SUV 707 hp and 645 lb-ft of torque. Alongside its strengthened eight speed transmission can go from 0-60 in 3.5 seconds and on to 180mph.
This isn’t the most practical SUV in the world but that’s not why you buy it. Someone said ‘The Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is completely impractical but you'll get out of the driver's seat with a huge grin plastered across your face.’ That about sums it up.
It’s big, brash, loud and such great fun!
The design is awesome. It takes everything that’s good about the standard Grand Cherokee design and adds even more personality. It looks mostly like A Cherokee but has some design flourishes and bright yellow brake callipers to show you it’s different.
If you don’t hear it, the four exhausts at the rear or extra cooling intakes up front gives it away. Otherwise, it looks like a sporty Cherokee with no chrome trim. It’s an awesome looking SUV that delivers the fun and performance you never wanted from such a vehicle but will fall in love once you do!
