2017 Ford Mustang Shelvy GT500 Rumours
2017 Ford Mustang Shelvy GT500 Rumours
Posted on December 27, 2016
The guys over at The Drive found an early link in Google pointing towards a Ford webpage indicating the arrival of the 2017 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. This is a car that has been rumoured for the longest time with no official confirmation from Ford themselves, until now.
While ‘confirmation’ may be a bit rich, The Drive found that when they put ‘GT500’ into the Google search engine, the second link in the search results was from the Ford website with the title ‘2017 Ford Mustang Shelby GT 500 | The Cobra of Performance Cars’. Clicking the link redirected them to the official Mustang webpage that was quickly removed.
So while it isn’t exactly confirmation that the 2017 Ford Mustang Shelby GT 500 exists, it kind of is. What was also revealed on the page was mentioned of a 5.8-litre V8 engine. So while nothing is official as yet, it is more real than it has been so far.
The upside is that during our research for 2017 cars, we found a Ford rumour that said they were planning to show a new Mustang at the 2017 North American International Auto Show. This could be it. The Drive mentioned this piece of news too so there may be some truth to it.

So what else has rumour central had to say about the 2017 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500? Speculation is rife and after seeing a couple of camouflaged Mustangs out and about, there is a lot of speculation about what, when and where of the new Shelby.
We think the 2017 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 will be based on the existing GT350 but with some upgrades.
Originally, the engine was thought to be a twin turbocharged 5.2-litre V8 that would put out somewhere around the 700 hp mark to take on the Hellcat. With the reveal above, that will now be revised to a 5.8-litre engine but the power output is expected to be much the same. Supercharging has been ruled out as an option as it doesn’t work too well with EcoBoost. Other than that, your guess is as good as mine.
Another piece of speculation is about materials use. We know Ford have been working hard on aluminium and carbon fibre so we expect the Shelby will take advantage of as much of that as possible to save weight. Again, this is unconfirmed but we would expect to see aluminium body parts and maybe carbon fibre hood or roof or maybe just some body kit additions in the material.
The rest we just don’t know. If the rumours are true, we don’t have long to wait as Detroit is less than a month away. What we do know is that Ford have to come up with something special if they are to stop being outgunned by the Camaro.
In the meantime, we have a range of Mustangs on offer at Northway Ford Lincoln, 388 King George Road Brantford ON N3S 3N2. Visit our dealership to check them out.
