Grand Wagoneer Hellcat might be a real thing

Grand Wagoneer Hellcat might be a real thing

Leaked documents from a Jeep parts provider indicates there may be a Hellcat powered Jeep Grand Wagoneer on the horizon. Given the current trend of shoehorning big motors into other vehicles, including Hellcats, this isn’t as far fetched as it might initially seem.

Ever since the return of the Jeep Grand Wagoneer was announced back in 2016, we have been eagerly awaiting the model. With production still yet to happen and the platform still a mystery, any news is good news.

First we heard the Grand Wagoneer was going to use the Grand Cherokee platform. Then it was a Ram 1500. Now we are hearing that in whatever platform finally comes our way, one variant of it may have a Hellcat engine!

According to ZF, a German transmission manufacturer, via Road and Track, Jeep have ordered a performance transmission called the ZF-8HP95X. In the paperwork that was leaked, there is mention of a Grand Wagoneer Trackhawk with an internal designation of WS. The document goes on to say that it will use a 6.2-litre V8 engine rated at 718 hp, which can only be a Hellcat.

The ZF-8HP95X transmission is a high torque variant that can be found in the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk and the Rolls Royce Cullinan.

Road and Track are careful to say that FCA denied all knowledge of a Grand Wagoneer Trackhawk and that it may not hit production. It may have been a prototype. It may have been a tester to see how the platform could cope. Or it might be an advance test vehicle to refine the vehicle for production.

Jeep Grand Wagoneer
Jeep really want a three row SUV so they can compete with Ford, Lincoln and other manufacturers in what is a very lucrative segment. The Jeep Grand Wagoneer is their answer.

We expect the Jeep Grand Wagoneer to be different to the images we have seen so far but to still be a three row luxury SUV. It will very likely be made to compete with the Navigator, BMW X5, Range Rover and premium vehicles rather than those lower down the pecking order.

Most of our ideas are pure speculation and have no data to back them up. However, we do expect similar levels of trim, performance and luxury as the Grand Cherokee, just on a larger scale.

Whether it is body on frame or unibody, based on a Ram 1500 or a Grand Cherokee, we are going to want one. If it is as good as the current range of Jeep products, we are going to want one from the moment we see it.
