Get ready for winter: Ford EcoSport

Get ready for winter: Ford EcoSport

640 × 480
Continuing our get ready for winter series, I’m going to cover a vehicle you may not consider as perfect for Canadian winters, the 2019 Ford EcoSport. More of an urban lifestyle vehicle than wilderness SUV, this Ford is common in our cities. It is also much more capable than many give it credit for.

The EcoSport has been around for a few years now and is Ford’s smallest SUV. Available with AWD and with decent ground clearance, it could easily handle winter in cities and suburban areas as well as highways.

2019 Ford EcoSport
The 2019 Ford EcoSport is a compact SUV with a real sense of style. It isn’t as burly as the Explorer or as diminutive as the Focus and sits somewhere in the middle. With a modest SUV shape, small profile and compact chassis it is easy to drive and manoeuvre around town too.

The design of the 2019 Ford EcoSport is purposely simple and reflects other Ford models. It has the signature grille and angled headlights, fog light recesses and subtly fluted hood of other models. It also has a rising beltline and detailed door panels, angled windshield and curving roof of some other Fords too.

Inside, there is room for four adults and some cargo in back. The dimensions of the car do not lend themselves to transporting lots of people but for those that have a seat, they are comfortable and contain enough room to travel in comfort. Trim and finishing is of a good quality and you have the option for lots of technology should you want it.

Available in S, SE, SES, and Titanium trims, there is a lot of choice within these models. You can opt for Ford Sync 3 with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, rearview camera and blind-spot monitoring, an 8 inch touchscreen, B&O audio system and other options depending on the trim you select.

Under the hood is either a 1.6-litre turbocharged three cylinder that produces 123 hp and 125 lb-ft of torque or a four cylinder, also with turbocharger that produces 166 hp and 149 lb-ft of torque. Both use a six speed automatic transmission. If you want to send power to all wheels, your only engine choice is the four cylinder which offers more power anyway.

The 2019 Ford EcoSport can often be overlooked when shopping for an SUV and that’s a shame. It might be small but it is perfectly formed and performs well too. With a quiet cabin, competent AWD system, smooth transmission and room for four, it’s the ideal family vehicle.
