Get ready for winter: 2019 Ford Edge

640 × 480
The 2019 Ford Edge is one of the automaker’s success stories. Introduced back in 2007 as the smaller sibling to the Explorer, this car has sold much better than Ford originally hoped. It’s a good looking car that concentrates on comfort and convenience and delivers well on both.

2019 Ford Edge design
The 2019 Ford Edge is immediately recognizable as Ford thanks to the signature front end. The family grille with blue oval makes it plain but those angled shark-like lights at either side make it unmistakable. Fog and LED light recesses and a small lower grille make for a handsome beginning.

The roof is relatively flat, side panels and hood largely unadorned and the rear end has been left purposely simple. A nice set of alloy wheels and lack of chrome on some models make them stand out for all the right reasons.

Inside, the 2019 Ford Edge can seat five quite comfortably with room in back for bags. New front seats are comfortable and supportive, especially in the Titanium trim and rear seats are easily accessible. The centre stack is well laid out with some storage, solid controls and a clear screen with Ford Sync 3. Overall, the interior of the Edge has improved steadily and is now very competent indeed.

2019 Ford Edge engine and drivetrain
The 2019 Ford Edge has been designed to be practical and offers just the engines and drivetrain to do it. There is a 2.0-litre turbocharged four cylinder that produces 250 hp or a 2.7-litre V6 in the ST that produces 335 hp. Both use an eight speed automatic transmission to send power to the rear or all wheels.

The Edge has independent suspension, electric power steering, a solid chassis and great road manners. It doesn’t roll on corners and inspires confidence both at high and low speeds.

New for 2019 is the introduction of forward-collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking and active lane control as standard on all models. You can also have adaptive cruise control, rear-seat inflatable seat belts and a 180-degree front camera as options.

As this is Ford, the trims and options are plentiful. The Edge is available in SE, SEL, Titanium and ST trims with lots and lots of configuration options that can include everything from Bang and Olufsen audio to remote start. There is something for every lifestyle in the options book and you could spend more time there than choosing the colour!

The 2019 Ford Edge offers AWD, competent road handling, good safety test scores and the reliability and dependability of all new Fords. That’s why I suggest it as a car suitable for Canadian winters. Check it out at Northway Ford Lincoln, 388 King George Road Brantford ON N3S 3N2.
