Ford Transit keeping families on the move as well as business

640 × 480
The Ford Transit is one of the most recognizable vans on the road and keeps millions of businesses supplied around the world. It seems families are keen to get in on the act too as more of them elect for a Transit passenger wagon over a traditional minivan.

Ford said last week that family buyers have helped the Transit continue its market dominance and even hit a 30% jump in sales during 2016. Now nobody is going to say that families are the prime market for Ford’s best-selling van. Business is that market and is always likely to be. What Ford is saying is that it is shifting more passenger wagon versions of the Transit than ever before.

Given how few real competitors it has and how good the Transit is at moving cargo and passengers, it’s no surprise to us that more people are discovering how useful the van can be.

2017 Ford Transit
There are few vans that come close to the Ford Transit in terms of capability, reliability and choice. There are dozens of variants and hundreds of features and it is entirely possible to specify a van to suit literally any purpose you care to think of. Whether you’re moving cargo or people, there is a van for you.

The design of the 2017 Ford Transit is a good one. More aerodynamic than before and better looking too. The Ford signature grille even makes an appearance on its workhorse van, as does the angled lights. Nobody is going to pretend this is a good looking vehicle, but as vans go, it is one of the more pleasing to the eye.

Inside, the cabin is one of quality. Whether specified to carry passengers or cargo, the seats are comfortable and options plentiful. You can specify the most basic of interiors with hard plastics and hardwearing upholstery or something much more luxurious, it is entirely up to you.

Under the hood is either a 3.2-litre turbodiesel engine that produces 185 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque, a 3.7-litre V6 that produces 275 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque or a 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6 that produces 310 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. Each has enough power to get up to speed quickly and maintain highway speeds without issue. All use a six speed automatic transmission that drives the rear wheels.

If you ever drove an older E-series van, the Transit will come as something of a surprise. It is much more modern, more comfortable, more driveable and much easier to live with. Whether you need it for business or pleasure, the Transit delivers in so many ways.
