Ford shows off the new F-150 Raptor R

In news that will please V8 fans everywhere, Ford has unveiled a video of the new F-150 Raptor R, complete with V8 engine.
The Raptor used to be the ultimate truck. Then the Ram TRX came along and beat it on paper, which was enough for Ford to want to up the ante.
Enter the F-150 Raptor R.
F-150 Raptor R
We don’t know too much about the F-150 Raptor R, except what Ford showcase in Palm Springs a week or two ago.
It looks and feels like a standard Raptor but sounds completely different.
In order to outperform the awesome 6.2-litre supercharged V8 in the Hellcat-powered TRX, Ford has shoehorned in the engine from the Mustang Shelby GT500.
That’s a 5.2-litre supercharged V8 that delivers 760 hp and 625 lb-ft of torque in the Shelby and probably something very similar in the Raptor R.
In fact, we wouldn’t be surprised if they tweaked that motor a little to help it deliver a little more than that.
That’s a significant step up from the current Raptor with its 450 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque!
Which has something to do with that different engine noise and exhaust note.
We didn’t get to see much under the skin, but it’s not unreasonable to expect uprated suspension and brakes, uprated shocks and perhaps different driving modes for the Raptor R.
While the standard drivetrain is more than enough for the standard Raptor, there’s going to be quite a lot more power going through in the R, which would require some beefed up mechanicals to keep everything under control.
F-150 Raptor vs R – visuals
From what we could see of the F-150 Raptor R, it won’t differ all that much from the standard Raptor.
There will probably be badging somewhere and some unique trim but the overall look and feel of it will be largely the same as the standard truck.
That’s good news as far as I’m concerned as the standard Raptor is an awesome piece of kit and something you definitely don’t want bearing down in your rearview.
Most buyers who would purchase the R will be more about those numbers on paper and the engine rather than having unique looks.
You’ll never mistake a Raptor from a Raptor R if the engine is running anyway, so who needs a unique look?
The new F-150 Raptor R is apparently still in the development stage and isn’t due until Q3 2023. In the meantime, we’re sure we will get to see lots more teasers, images and videos of what to expect.
