Ford releases engine specs for 2018 F-150 and Expedition

640 × 480
We have been hearing little bits here and there about Ford’s plans for next year’s lineup but nothing about the engines, until now. Last Thursday Ford announced the specs for the gas engines that will be available in the Ford F-150 and Expedition.

The 2018 Ford F-150 is getting a redesign with engines as part of that package. The 2018 Ford Expedition is all new so we have been waiting to see exactly what it will have under the hood. Now we know.

2018 Ford F-150 engines
The 2018 Ford F-150 will have a 2.7-litre EcoBoost V6 that will produce 325 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. Horsepower remains the same as the 2017 model while torque increases 25 lb-ft over the current model.

The new 3.3-litre V6 will replace the current 3.5 and produce 290 hp and 265 lb-ft of torque. That is an increase of 8 hp and 12 lb-ft of torque over the current model. Thanks to dual port direct injection, output increases slightly in the new model.

The 5.0-litre V8 engine also gets dual port direct injection and will produce 395 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. That is 10 hp and 13 lb-ft of torque over the current version.

The current turbocharged 3.5-litre engine will continue unchanged. There will be a new 3.0-litre PowerStroke diesel engine introduced but numbers have yet to be released. As I have mentioned before, it is the same engine that currently sits in the Range Rover. It is rated at 254 hp and 440 lb-ft of torque so those are the figures we are expecting when finally announced.

2018 Ford Expedition engines
The 2018 Ford Expedition is all new so has no legacy engines to upgrade. It will have:
A 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6 engine that produces 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. There will be two versions of this motor, a standard version in  XL, XLT and Limited trims that will produce the power above. A different version available in the Platinum trim will deliver 400 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque but will require you to use premium gas.

All engines on both vehicles will use Ford’s existing 10 speed automatic transmission to send power to the rear or all wheels.

Both the 2018 Ford F-150 and 2018 Ford Expedition will go on sale this fall. The PowerStroke diesel is expected Spring 2018.
